The Health, Safety & Environmental Director is responsible for leading, developing and executing HS&E strategies that support our client's business strategies and maintain a safety culture that drives continuous improvement. Reporting to the Vice President, this individual lead a team tasked with ensuring 100% compliance with all local, provincial, and federal regulations. This includes but is not limited to programs in the areas of air, water, hazardous and non hazardous waste, and safety for both direct hire and contractors.
Specific duties will include:
- Create a work environment which reflects a commitment to protecting the health and safety of employees
- Develop and execute strategic plans and initiatives that align with corporate and divisional goals
- Support strategic growth initiatives across the business by continuously ensuring any changes that impact manufacturing activities are evaluated for environmental and safety ramifications and that the necessary controls and processes are established to ensure regulatory compliance at all times
- Interact directly with third party operators to ensure ongoing compliance with our client's operating agreements related to HS&E compliance
- Collaborate with a wide range of projects and departments to identify and analyze risks and opportunities related to HS&E
- Establish and lead a process for sharing best practices related to HS&E across all business units. This includes the development and implementation of HS&E training programs for employees
- Partner with manufacturing, engineering and operations to continuously drive innovations and process improvements that create a more ergonomic and safer work environment.
- Risk identification and management, incident reporting and investigation, and various compliance activities and implementation of all aspects of HS&E
- Develop and implementing the yearly safety training program
- Plan and coordinate site visitations and compliance inspections
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive industrial environmental, safety and health experience
- 5+ years of experience in an HS&E leadership role
- 5 years minimum experience interacting and negotiating directly with regulating agencies
- Excellent computer and oral and written communication skills as well as good organizational skills.
- Ability to establish credibility with customers and work well with all levels of management
- Strong coaching, training and motivational skills; ability to lead a team
