POSITION SUMMARY
The Translation Department is responsible for the translation of a large variety of documents provided by the Canadian Tire Retail Group, Express Auto Parts, Human Resources, Canadian Tire Financial Services, the Canadian Tire Dealer Association and the Supply Chain Division. With the help of a large network of freelancers, we are providing translation and all other related services: quality control, proofreading, editing and page layout.
The Translator/Editor is responsible for translating projects received from various areas of the Corporation and for revising translations done by colleagues and freelancers, while insuring the accuracy and overall quality of French communications to the French stores, Dealers, clients and French Canadian public.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Translate short/urgent requests to speed up release of documents;
  • Revise texts translated by freelancers or in-house translators, by reading the French copy while referencing the equivalent English copy to validate and adjust translation as needed; this review includes such aspects as style, grammar and effectiveness of communication;
  • Determine whether the translation requires a basic revision or a more thorough verification and adjusts revision scope as needed;
  • Create and provide freelance translators with a marked copy of the changes made to their translation to ensure continued growth and improve their understanding; discuss said revisions with them if needed;
  • Provide terminology assistance to translators;
  • Provide guidance to proofreaders;
  • Contribute to the Department Terminology Database;
  • Perform other duties as required (coordination of projects, terminological research, and feedback on staff performance).

Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in both French and English;
  • University Degree in Translation or French literature from a registered Canadian University;
  • Three to five years experience as a translator-revisor, preferably in a retail environment;
  • Good knowledge of the Quebec market to ensure understanding of target audience;
  • Resourceful and willing to explore various sources of information in order to ascertain the validity of terms used;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Strong organizational and priority setting skills;
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Strong trouble shooting/problem solving skills;
  • Strong commitment to customer service;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to perform under the pressure of strict deadlines.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word 2007 and working knowledge of Excel 2007 and PowerPoint 2007;
  • Working knowledge of Trados, an asset.
