SCOPE:
This role will have significant leadership accountability and will be involved in the development of project design, execution plans, budgets and schedules.
• Provides guidance within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment and will coordinate specific assigned areas of Sustaining Capital Projects,
• Development of the execution strategy for sustaining capital projects
• Ensure all projects are developed to achieve or exceed all Health & Safety standards
• Meet all cost and construction schedule targets
• Manage interfaces within Canadian Natural and with the assigned Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor(s) for the successful engineering, procurement and construction of sustaining capital projects for the Bitumen Production facilities for Horizon Oil Sands.
KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION:
With extensive design and construction experience, this position is tasked with leading the engineering design and construction for expense and sustaining capital projects.
• Coordinate the engineering & design work associated with sustaining capital projects
• Coordinates the engineering & design either with engineering resources from E&I team and Mechanical Engineering team or with a 3rd Party Contractor
• Development of the overall project cost estimates, AFE and schedule
• Ensures execution of the project within the approved budget and schedule
• Provides project management for the construction and handover of Sustaining Capital Projects supporting the Manager - Sustaining Capital Projects by providing direction to the CNRL or contractor Construction Managers/Coordinators
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Lead in the constructability reviews of engineering designs and the construction schedules (execution plans) prepared by Horizon engineering teams and / or the contractor(s) to ensure that their proposed methods of construction and installation are:
o Economical and practical
o Compatible with the design concepts and intentions.
o Comply with all Health Safety requirements It is the Construction Coordinator's responsibility to ensure the contractor provides appropriate construction execution plans, Safe Work Plans and Inspection Test Plans
• Work with the other Project Managers, Project Engineers and multi-discipline Engineers in other areas in Bitumen Production as well as in Upgrading and Utilities, Facilities and Services and Mining to ensure the successful coordination of interfaces between these areas.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in the selection of EPC Contractors
• Provide coordination, guidance and direction as required by the selected Contractors
• Ensure timely approvals, decision making and responses for agreed upon action items
• Oversee the review, selection, and approval of the design and optimization of the identified project facility
• Work with Contractor personnel in the development of equipment data and specifications for the procurement and/or modification of major equipment
• Coordinate the design and construction of the BP facilities
• Ensure timely responses to Request for Information (RFI's) in areas of assigned responsibility
• Coordinate the implementation of reviews required in the areas of:
• Value Improvement Practices:
• Lessons Learned
• HAZOP's
• Safety
• Operability and Maintainability
• Constructability
• Coordinate and assist in specified areas of training, field engineering, quality assurance, pre-commissioning, mechanical completion, turnover, performance testing, commissioning and startup; and
• Manage the day to day activities of the BP facilities for the Project, as Canadian Natural's prime representative and in accordance with all governing codes, standards, procedures and specifications.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
Education & Experience:
• Five (5) years of experience in a project management role (on oil sands bitumen production facilities an asset)
• Ten (10) years total experience as a professional engineer.
• Capital project design and planning experience
• An engineering degree in Chemical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, or Mineral Processing is preferred, and registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta is required.

• Your sound knowledge of bitumen production facilities in the Oil Sands industry has been gained through hands-on experience and will provide you with an advantage in rationally and cost effectively executing your daily duties.
