SCOPE:

The Automation and Control Engineer provides crucial technical guidance to the team of professionals that configure, maintain and install the control system at Horizon Oil Sands.

The successful candidate will be working with the most advanced control system and one of the largest Delta V Distributed Control System (DCS) and Triconex Safety Instrumented System (SIS) in the world.

KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION:
• Provides guidance to significant technical issues, especially regarding hardware issues.
• Monitors key performance parameters of the control or safety system.
• Technical guidance on interface requirements to third party systems.
• Provides direction on overall network architecture, maintenance.
• Works with other stakeholders providing guidance on interface issues to the Distributed Control System (DCS), Safety Instrumented System (SIS) and the fiber optic infrastructure.
• Working with other stakeholders, provides guidance on significant pieces of software that exist on the Control Systems Application servers, these include our historian and alarm and events servers.
• Back up and disaster recovery planning.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Overall control system/safety system network architecture.
• Physical architecture of the fiber optics network.
• System related issues on the Distributed Control System (DCS) or Safety Instrumented System (SIS)
• Interface with outside stakeholders on issues regarding the control systems.
• Plant Information network.
• System security.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
Certification, Education and Experience
• Electrical, Computer or Chemical Engineering degree; eligible for registration in APEGGA.
• 12 years of progressive experience in a large industrial facility, may include some time in engineering firms.
• Distributed Control Systems or Safety Instrumented Systems at a senior level.
• Working familiarity with Historian, Alarm and Events, and Alarm analysis applications.
• Fiber Optic network expertise.
• Foundation Fieldbus and other fieldbusses.
• Delta V expertise is an asset.
• Triconex Safety Instrumented System experience is an asset.
• PI historian experience is an asset.
