Study confirms: Women work harder than men

When giant 3M issued a study to look at the results of putting a protective filter on their internet, they ended up accidently proving a long-debated issue—that women work harder than men.

The company had hired an independent research group to look at the impact of their privacy filters on workplace productivity. The study, as described this Forbes article, found that yes, privacy filters did indeed improve employee productivity….and also that women work harder than men. Oops!

It wasn’t long ago that Workopolis reported that women are better at reading other people than men. And now we find out about this.

So what happened? The study took subjects from a bunch of area within the company, with equal numbers of males and females, for a 10-minute experimental trial. The results in a nutshell are as follows:

  • Women worked longer than men with the privacy filter (4.9 minutes versus 4.3 minutes)
  • Women worked longer than men without the privacy filter (4.9 minutes versus 4.3 minutes)
  • Men worked significantly less when the researcher present was female (3.6 minutes versus 2.8 minutes)

So men work less than women in a variety of scenarios. Even more so when women are around. That pretty much says it all, doesn’t it?

What do you think?
