Reviews special orders and Production Sheet, which is a record of merchandise on hand and previously baked quantities by item, to understand daily variety of cakes, cupcakes, pies, and message cookies to be decorated, packaged, and stocked.
Retrieves proper merchandise from the Bakery Department freezer/cooler and places merchandise on facility carts to be transported to the preparation area to be decorated, finished, packaged, and labeled. Decorates cakes, cupcakes, and message cookies, utilizing various shapes and figures such as lines, letters, figures, and flowers, and using icing bags, cutters, frostings, pastry creams, and miscellaneous hand tools. Mixes or thaws icings, frostings, and pastry creams to decorate cakes, cupcakes, and message cookies. Communicates and responds effectively to Customers to answer questions, such as product location, variety, freshness, shelf life, ingredients, serving size, and availability, and to provide requested assistance, involving asking questions and providing guidance on cake varieties, sizes, and prices for special occasions. Answers phone and takes special orders for cakes and other bakery items from Customers, including filling out sheet specifying order type and desired decoration. Ensures a safe and clean environment by maintaining safety standards, maintenance, and cleanliness as required by the department by cleaning preparation area, freezers, coolers, and floors, using appropriate cleaning solutions and chemicals. Constantly monitors and adheres to food safety procedures for the Bakery Department, including visual appeal, dating, and rotation procedures of the Bakery Department merchandise. Monitors area for signs of shrink and potential security risks, including bakery merchandise being consumed or discarded and not recorded and dating, temperature, and cleaning exceptions, and contacts management and/or In-Store Loss Prevention when problems are identified. Merchandising Maintains the overall appearance of the Bakery Department area by keeping merchandise and displays fully stocked, properly signed, neat, clean, and organized. Follows established procedures, utilizing the handheld scanner to process damaged goods, merchandise left behind, and outdated bakery merchandise. Adheres to standards and policies for product storage, product rotation, sell-by dates, and expiration dates, including identifying and removing bakery merchandise that is distressed or unacceptable in appearance to ensure quality and freshness. Ability to adapt to and work effectively in various parts of the facility. Ability to complete mathematical computations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to mix and measure ingredients. Ability to decorate cakes, cupcakes, and message cookies by following Customer orders and using appropriate designs, colors, and utensils. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with Customers, Associates, and Suppliers. Ability to learn more about merchandise and utilize product information to assist the Customer with purchasing decisions. Ability to prioritize work assignments and complete duties within established work routines and procedures. Ability to read, write, and understand printed materials, including special orders and instructions for decorating merchandise. Ability to stock and display merchandise in the freezers and coolers in accordance with Company guidelines. Knowledge of and ability to apply Company and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of and proficiency with scanning equipment, security tag deactivation, cash register operations, bakery ovens, icing bags, cutters, and other equipment and utensils. Knowledge of Bakery merchandise, such as availability, quality, shelf life, and ingredients.
Organizing, labeling, and pricing merchandise in accordance with Company guidelines and using fine motor skills to grasp, turn, and manipulate objects. Placing items in their correct locations, which may include reaching overhead or below knee level and bending, twisting, or stooping. Routinely working in an area requiring exposure to extreme cold temperatures
