Senior Manager, Risk Strategic Initiative Support

Business Unit Description:
Risk Services provides a range of support, including: strategic risk analytics and assessments of CIBC's portfolio; enterprise-wide oversight of the measurement, monitoring and control of CIBC's balance sheet resources including economic capital; vetting CIBC's analytic and statistical models; developing and validating parameters and models used for regulatory capital; and providing analytics, data analysis and/or trading applications to businesses as required. In addition, Risk Services is also responsible for operational risk, corporate risk and insurance services functions in CIBC.

Risk Management is led by Senior Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer and is accountable on matters relating to the independent oversight of the management of risks inherent to CIBC's activities. These risks include but are not limited to ensuring that effective processes are in place for the identification, management, measurement, monitoring and control of operational, reputation and legal, market, credit, investment and liquidity risk, collectively "CIBC Risk", incurred by CIBC's retail and wholesale businesses, infrastructure and corporate governance groups.

CIBC Capital Markets Risk Management recently implemented a large project called the Risk Strategic Initiative (RSI). RSI was a regulatory change project aimed at enhancing CIBC's capabilities to measure, monitor and report on Trading Credit, Market and Trading Operational Risks. The project meets OSFI regulatory requirements and provides a flexible system solution to support business growth in Wholesale Banking.

In order to facilitate the successful deployment of the RSI program, and provide post production support to the end users, a dedicated support team was created to manage any issues or requests related to roll out of SunGard's Adaptiv and CIBC's internal systems related to this deployment.

The position outlined below is permanent role within the support team known as the Adaptiv Business Application Support Team (ABAS). At present this role reports organizationally, to the RSI PMO until we finalize the full time organizational structure.

This team is part of the RSI Post Deployment work effort within the RSI program. This team, ABAS, is intended to be the end user support team, within Risk Management, to provide support to users on a bundle of systems that were part of the RSI Program, Phase A.

Job Overview:
JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Manager is expected to manage and co-ordinate the day to day activities of the ABAS support team. The Senior Manager will facilitate issue resolution between Trading Operational Risk (TOR), RSI project teams, Wholesale Banking Technology, Treasury & Risk Management Technology and business users.




KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) The ABAS Senior Manager, reports to the RSI PMO and Risk Services Business Management and leads the incident management process for the RSI Program.

2) Strong leadership and people management skills for motivating, directing and coaching direct report(s) in producing focused, quality work. Ability to deal with staff from a variety of technical specialties.

3) Multi-tasking is required, as a result effective time management and balancing of priorities is important.

4) Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate up, down and across the organization, and the ability to translate complex content into action, both verbally and written.

5) Reviews all user incidents during daily triage, facilitating issue resolution by prioritizing issues for escalation and managing all requests.

6) Key liaison/point of contact for issue escalation with CIBC's Technology group and SunGard, Front Office, Trading Credit Risk, Market Risk and Trading Operational Risk.

7) Provides weekly updates on status and % completion to PMO.

8) Manages the intake for the change control process for the RSI program, liaising with business management and technology leads.

9) As required, meets with business specialists, Technology, and the PMO; solicits business requirements and updates project plans.

10) Review business requirements related to change requests, data requirements and mapping.

11) Maintains and updates the existing ACR training materials for Trading Credit Risk, Front Office and Market Risk as required.

12) Manages, oversights the following processes: Access Request/IMAC Process, Product Hierarchy/PPM, Maintenance of Authorized Product List in Adaptiv, Quarterly SOX Attestations

Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

. University degree in a business field, for instance Finance, Financial Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics or Engineering. FRM and/or CFA designations desirable.
. Strong management skills; providing direction on issue resolution and escalating to Management.
. Excellent communication and leadership skills are required in working with the business users, Technology, PMO and vendors.
. Excellent understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and current technologies, techniques and tools pertaining to the analysis, design, development, testing and deployment of solutions.
. Good understanding of hardware and software platforms, connectivity solutions, databases, middleware, groupware. Familiar with various trading floor / front office trading applications: xTrader, Catalyst, Optex, Wallstreet, etc.
. PMP certification; Good understanding of project management fundamentals, with experience in CIBC EDF (Enterprise Delivery Framework).
o Experience with leading small projects with understanding of the change control process.
o Experience with managing business analyst resources.
. In-depth understanding of Trading Credit Risk and Market Risk business concepts and processes:
o Detailed knowledge of derivative products across all asset classes (Interest Rate, Foreign Exchange, Equity, Commodity, and Credit), exchange-traded (ETD) and over-the-counter (OTC) trading products, product classifications and product attributes.
o Working knowledge and experience of Front Office trading systems that trade the capital markets products; such as Derivatives, SWAP's, Bonds etc..
. A minimum of 5+ years in a management or lead capacity, with 2+ years experience in either project management with preference for direct experience with Capital Markets Risk Management or a related environment.
. Familiarity with requirements gathering, analysis, and writing techniques.
. Proven leadership and problem solving skills. Ability to analyze, prioritize and rectify project issues as they arise.
. Well-developed written and oral skills, sufficient to communicate technical, analytical or conceptual information and ideas to the business, senior management and other areas within the bank.


WORKING CONDITIONS

. Requires excellent time management and organization skills for concurrently managing a range of tasks.
. May require overtime or work outside of normal office hours due to global nature of locations that this team supports
. Ability to perform under time constraints.
