Application Consultant

Business Unit Description:
Technology: responsible for the delivery of technology in support of all CIBC businesses and customers. Directly aligns to CIBC's businesses, with a technology team for each business. Delivers world class solutions in support of business strategies, through a combination of in-house systems development and working with leading technology partners. This group also manages CIBC's core computing facilities, telecommunications and networks globally.

Corporate Centre Technology: provides a wide variety of application and support services to the Bank's Treasury and the enterprise wide portfolio management of credit, interest rate, operational risk and Corporate Systems including Legal and HR. This group is accountable for all aspects of technology for its Global Operations, Intria Items Client, Chief Accountant's Division and SBU Finance divisions. CCT supports the above businesses through a strategy of providing cost effective, well controlled and high quality operations services to internal and external clients.


Relevant Job Criteria:
- There is a full time 12 month contract position available.

Job Overview:
PURPOSE OF JOB:

Responsible for the functional design and architecture of application systems across all technologies and platforms.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES:

. Translate user requirements to process and data requirements. Design application's technical infrastructure, such as specific databases, programming languages, utilities, and testing approaches.
. Design and/or integrate solutions for the processing of data and development of precise steps and processing logic across all platforms.
. Provide broad understanding of platforms and applications across all technologies.
. Ensure the designed specifications achieve business needs.


Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Subject Matter Expert:
. Consulting--Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques and roles and responsibilities in providing technical or business guidance to clients within and outside own area.

Extensive Work Experience:
. Interpersonal Relationships--Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for working with individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
. IT Environment--Knowledge of organization's total information technology (it) environment.
. Decision Making and Critical Thinking--Knowledge of tools and techniques for effective use of a broad range of factors, assumptions, frameworks and perspectives when solving problems.
. Application Design, Architecture--Knowledge of and experience with activities, tools and techniques for converting business requirements and logical models into a technical application design.
. Application Delivery Process--Knowledge of major tasks, deliverables, formal methodologies and disciplines for delivering new or enhanced applications.

Work Experience:
. Planning: Tactical, Strategic--Ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1 - 2 years) and strategic (3 - 5 years) planning in support of the business plan.

CONTACTS:

. Wide range of internal and external contacts including directors, senior directors and vice presidents, other technology areas, business clients and vendors.

JOB COMPLEXITIES/CHALLENGES:

. Analyzing project and/or technical risk, using available information, to support business recommendations.
. Analyzing business and/ or client processes and practices to identify and recommend opportunities for enhancement.
. Interpreting business requirements and design application solution.
. Assessing work and information flows to identify and recommend appropriate solutions.
. Providing overall solutions to complex application problems.
. Providing application solutions or making technology selection decisions that are often made in situations where business requirements are not completely defined or changing.
. Estimating project work effort where new technology is involved and no guidelines exist.
. Making decisions with respect to application solutions or technology selection which impact one or several applications resulting in significant financial impact to the project.

. COBOL/Mainframe application design experience (5 years)
. J2EE experience (4 years)
. C/C++/C# design experience (4 years)
. Design Methodology experience (3 years)
. XML experience (3 years)

Nice to Have:
. CPCS experience (4 years)
. Vector 5 experience (4 years)
. Experience in iTran transport (2 years)
. Currency processing experience (3 years)
. Statement processing experience (3 years)
