Data Mining and Analytics Specialist

Business Unit Description:
Strategic Planning and Business Management is responsible for the integrated Technology and Operations strategy; providing thought-leadership regarding business effectiveness, operational efficiency, controls and risk, and working with the Strategic Project Office to align Technology and Operations' priorities with those of its business partners. In addition, the group provides consolidated business reporting, planning and analysis, and develops and manages initiatives that are common to Technology, Global Operations and INTRIA, and Corporate Services.

Job Overview:
PURPOSE OF JOB:
Provide technical expertise for medium to highly complex data projects/initiatives as they relate to the implementation and support of data and/or data technology in a multi-platform environment. Develop proprietary data mining tools and models.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES:

. Plan for collection method, data cleansing, and normalization of enterprise data to support decision making and reporting.
. Assure integrity of data; develops policies and procedures related to development and support of new and ongoing systems.
. Coordinate data models, dictionaries, and other database documentation across multiple applications.
. Work with data transformation teams to insure design is properly communicated
. Evaluate service requests to ensure adherence to standards and processes, identifying inconsistencies, analyzing potential impact and taking appropriate action.
. Identify and resolve medium to highly complex data issues for support of applications
. Identify root cause and definine actions to eliminate recurrence.
. Monitor and analyze supported services to identify opportunities for improvement and recommends solutions.


Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Subject Matter Expertise:
. Consulting--Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques and roles and responsibilities in providing technical or business guidance to clients within and outside own area.
Extensive Work Experience:
. Provide data mining and analysis to support various initiatives
. Provide standard reporting support, which includes the ability to extract data from various source systems and data stores by performing coding and system parameter setting
. Perform ad-hoc queries and develop/automate financial/statistical models using a variety of software applications (Excel, MS Access, SQL)
. Process and analyze data to support business case analysis and ad-hoc requests. Define data requirements and ensure accuracy of data pulls
. Responsible for writing queries, filtering and transforming data into meaningful reports for analysis . Investigate and help resolve possible data corruptions and discrepancies
. Liaise with IT to understand best sources of data and tables
. Perform other duties and special projects as required
. Application Maintenance--Knowledge of and experience with defining, implementing changes to, and supporting a production application.
. Technical Troubleshooting--Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for anticipating, recognizing, and resolving data problems.
. Problem Solving--Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems as related to data.
. Managing Multiple Priorities--Ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups or activities. Effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation.
. IT Environment--Knowledge of organization's total information technology (it) environment.
. Interpersonal Relationships--Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for working with individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.Presentations--Ability to present information to groups with the appropriate degree of formality.
. Interpersonal Relationships--Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for working with individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
. Decision Making and Critical Thinking--Knowledge of tools and techniques for effective use of a broad range of factors, assumptions, frameworks and perspectives when solving problems.
. Conflict Management--Knowledge of tools and techniques for anticipating, recognizing and effectively dealing with existing or potential conflicts at the individual, group or situation level.
. Staff and Career Development--Ability to address training and career development needs of individuals, teams or organization.
. Leadership--Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for gaining the cooperation and support of others.
Work Experience:
. Written Communications--Ability to produce a variety of business documents that demonstrate command of language, clarity of thought and orderliness of presentation.
. Oral Communications--Ability to express oneself and communicate with others verbally; recognizing that verbal communication is more than just language - it includes tone, style and structure.

CONTACTS:
. All levels of staff including; Directors, Senior Directors and occasionally Vice Presidents, Other Technology Areas, Business Clients and Vendors.

JOB COMPLEXITIES/CHALLENGES:
. Diagnosing and correlating disparate information to determine the appropriate course of action for medium to highly complex situations. This requires in-depth investigation and analysis to provide a solution in most situations. However, more complex situations are escalated as appropriate.
. Evaluating complex technical information to determine risk levels and feasibility when making changes to applications.
. Developing solutions or recommendations to increase effectiveness and efficiency (e.g., deployment methodologies).
. Working in a subset of a highly complex environment where judgements are dependent on a number of variables such as time, complexity; degree of uniqueness, , inconsistent information, and / or where many applications are impacted. Selecting the appropriate alternative from a number of alternatives, error in judgement in the selection process may have detrimental effects and have significant impacts (e.g., poor application performance, lost data).

Must Haves:
. Strong analytical, quantitative and problem solving abilities are required (5 years)
. Experience extracting and correlating data using standard tools - e.g. SQL (5 years)
. Experience with various database protocols - Oracle, SQL, PL-SQL (5 years)
. Knowledge of activities, tasks, processes, deliverables and techniques for analyzing and documenting conceptual/logical data models to capture domain knowledge and business rules.(3 years)
. Developing automated and reusable routines for extracting and reconciling data (5 years)

. Team lead and project experience (3 years)
. Business Analysis (2 years)
. Data Warehousing (3 years)
. Experience supporting Trading Floor (1 year)
. Experience compiling reports using data reporting tools - e.g. Cognos (2 years)

Education and Accreditation
. University Degree - Bachelors in Mathematics, Computer Science, and/or Business Administration or related experience
