Senior Active Transportation Specialist
Salary $47.64 - $51.79 per hour
Position Purpose Reporting to the Program Manager, Active and Sustainable Transportation, is responsible for maintaining, updating and implementing the Region's Pedestrian and Cycling Master Plan (PCMP) and coordinating all of the Region's activities to promote active transportation; developing and implementing outreach programming; coordinating construction of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure and facilities; monitoring capital budgets; administering technical and public advisory committees; working in partnership with stakeholders such as York Region Police, school boards, York Region Transit, local municipalities, York Region public health and adjacent municipalities to implement pedestrian and cycling infrastructure and facilities and to address common issues.
Successful completion of a University Degree in Transportation Engineering or Planning or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
Membership with a recognized professional engineering or planning organization.
Minimum five (5) years demonstrated experience in transportation engineering or transportation planning with experience administering active transportation projects and programs.
Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
Thorough knowledge of active transportation planning, design and operating principles, concepts, practices, methods and legislation, GTA context and roles of different levels of government.
Demonstrated knowledge of transportation demand management and sustainable transportation principles, concepts, practices, methods and legislation.
Strong presentation skills and ability to represent the Region well in front of diverse groups and agencies.
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications as well as proficiency with the application of specialized software relevant to the technical specialty.
Ability to identify issues, challenges and opportunities and propose solutions.
Ability negotiate/facilitate, build consensus and present information to varied audiences.
Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
