Job Description


Lead Paramedic

Position Purpose
Reporting to the Superintendent/Supervisor EMS Paramedic Operations, is responsible for functioning as a Paramedic within the Performance and Development Division with specific responsibilities depending on the area of assignment such as scheduling, educational, clinical responsibilities, coaching new staff, report writing and data analysis; and assisting with Community initiatives, peer presentations and establishing new external partnerships.

Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an accredited ACP or PCP Community College program or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 year's experience as a Primary or Advanced Care Paramedic.
  • Current certification with Central East Hospital Care Program.
  • Current certifications in Symptom Relief and Defibrillation.
  • Current BTLS International Certificate.
  • CPR instructor with HFSO or willingness to certify and maintain certification
  • Current International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and ability to certify as an ITLS instructor.
  • Must meet all requirements under legislation to qualify as a Paramedic.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Adult Education and Training Principles and ability to certify as an instructor in EMS related educational programs.
  • Valid Ontario Class "F" or higher driver's license in good standing which meets the requirements of the Ambulance Act of Ontario.
  • Successful Police Criminal Background Check.
  • Knowledge of applicable Standards, Acts, Regulations, Directives, Policies and Legislation pertinent to the job as a Paramedic.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Emergency Planning principles and understanding of Project Management principles.
  • Knowledge of the Region's emergency services structure and organization.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to incorporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management and accountability and flexibility/adaptability
  • General knowledge and demonstrated ability in instructional design, analysis measurement and evaluation methods.
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office applications and proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, scheduling, data base and presentation software
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to foster a positive and co-operative working relationship with team members, allied services and other agencies and the public.
  • Ability to work outside regular EMS shifts assignments/patterns including rotating shifts, evenings/nights, weekends and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
