Within our St. John’s, Newfoundland office, we are seeking a qualified Tax Specialist to join our growing team. This is an opportunity to grow and advance in an emerging firm in Atlantic Canada. You will help service the large client base across Newfoundland, which will provide for an excellent diversification of clients, industries, taxation specialties and office locations.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Tax planning at both the personal and corporate level for diverse clients
Corporate reorganizations and estate planning
Tax planning for the purchase and sale of client businesses
Working with other members of the tax group to implement advanced tax planning strategies for our clients
Dealing with CRA on tax audits and appeals
Providing tax advice to Partners and staff members
Travel to other BDO Offices and/or client sites in the area to assist with tax work
Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge:
CA Designation is required Successful completion of the CICA In-Depth Tax Program, Level I & II
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in a public accounting firm
Two to four (2-4) years of experience specializing in Canadian Income tax matters
Ability to identify new business opportunities, build strong client relations and focus on employee engagement
Ability to deal with pressure, work flexible hours and work within required budgets
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to deal with conflict and resolution
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Experience with Caseware and TaxPrep would be considered an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word and Excel and Simply Accounting
