Within our St. John’s, Newfoundland office, we are seeking a qualified Tax Accountant to join our growing team. This is an opportunity to grow and advance in an emerging firm in Atlantic Canada. We are seeking an individual who has demonstrated abilities to deal with sensitive issues in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are critical. Our clients include businesses of various sizes in agriculture, insurance, retail, construction, manufacturing, non-profit organizations, government service agencies, and municipal government. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Preparation of personal, corporate and trust income tax returns along with other tax information forms and working towards reviewing all of the above
Working with other members of the tax group to implement advanced tax planning strategies for our clients
Preparing and reviewing tax provisions
Dealing with tax authorities on tax audits and appeals
Assistance with review and resolution of issues arising from government notices
Prepare tax accrual working papers in accordance with applicable accounting standards
Researching tax issues various tax matters
Providing tax advice to Partners and staff members
Travel to other BDO Offices and/or client sites in the area to assist with tax work
Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge:
Chartered Accountant designation
Willingness to enroll or completion of the CICA In-depth tax course
A minimum of two years of public accounting experience including auditing and the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns (Tax Accountant) OR a minimum of 4-5 years experience in public accounting with a tax specialty (Tax Manager)
Sound technical knowledge of Canadian tax related issues
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Solid oral and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Proficiency with MS Office and experience with Caseware and TaxPrep would be valuable assets
