Position Overview:


The Security Development Team has three primary mandates; security solution development, security infrastructure growth and delivering innovative tools to drive automation and efficiencies. The security solutions development process includes requirements gathering, detailed design, design validation through proof of concepts and first implementation. Infrastructure growth expands existing capabilities, integrates new platform and manage the service life cycle for security technology already deployed. In addition, this team is responsible for driving automation and developing tools that result in efficiencies to improve service levels or resulting in resources gains that can be used to take on new capabilities.


The Senior Security Consultant position provides the knowledge and skill set required to enable the team to fulfill its mandate. The individual is responsible for providing security architecture and design support to key TELUS projects and to participate in the development, implementation and on-going maintenance of enterprise security infrastructure. Key deliverables include protecting TELUS' information assets from a confidentiality, integrity and availability perspective, developing strategic security solutions to mitigate risk in a cost effective manner while improving user experience.

  • Perform comprehensive threat/risk assessments and business impact analysis of current system, data, application and technology environments to determine possible internal and external threats to TELUS' information assets, and identify security measures required to counter such threats

  • Collect, document and analyze business and security requirements for development initiatives

  • Navigate a formal enterprise project governance model and successfully deliver projects on time and on budget

  • Provide security subject matter expertise and security guidance for corporate as well as customer-facing projects and initiatives to address security gaps and ensure the system/product meets corporate policy, industry and regulatory compliance requirements

  • Research industry standards and state-of-the-art technology developments to ensure that the enterprise security solution and technology security standards remain current

  • Provide technical expertise in the planning, acquisition and implementation of security technologies and toolkits to support TELUS' strategic, tactical and operational plans

  • Operationalize new security services; provide training and documentation for 24x7 operations teams

  • Leverage your scripting/coding capability to automate and integrate various services and develop web based tools to simplify manual work



Required Knowledge:

  • The successful candidate will have expertise in multiple security domains and have a good mix of expertise that covers off the following:
    • A working knowledge of information security policies, standards, guidelines and relevant legislations and/or regulations, such as ISO 27000 series, PCI DSS, SOX, COBIT, SSAE

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strategic and innovative thinking
  • Highly organized, analytical, detailed and action orientated
  • Strong planning, facilitation, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform security requirements planning and analysis
  • Ability to facilitate and complete security designs for systems, applications, data and networks
  • Ability to build, document and analyze security solutions
  • Ability to build consensus and use risk management approach in delivering processes and/or technology solutions that will meet business security needs
  • Ability to code in Java desirable

Required Professional Designation/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree (or diploma) and/or professional designation specializing in computer science and security
  • Preferred professional designation is CISSP
  • Other certifications from recognized security institutes beneficial (SANS, ICS2, CISCO and Microsoft etc.)
  • Must be able to obtain Government of Canada Security Clearance (minimum level Secret - Level II)

Required Experience:

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in areas of security and security technologies/methodologies
