Position Description

Job Summary

The Account Manager is responsible for building an account strategy that consistently delivers solutions that are integrated, synchronized and advantageous to the client and profitable to the Company. Provides each customer with a dedicated link to McKesson Canada.  Identifies customer concerns and issues and works with the customer and the appropriate McKesson Canada departments to develop and implement mutually beneficial solutions.



Section A - Specific Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities generally include but are not limited to:

  • Developing, maintaining and communicating a formal account strategy and portfolio of key growth opportunities
  • Responsible for the profits and losses of accounts within McKesson
  • Completes strategic customer account plans that meet company standards.
  • Proactive identification and communication of the customer's short term and long term strategic objectives;
  • Proactively assesses, clarifies, and validates customer needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Leading on-going communication and meetings between McKesson leadership team and the strategic account's senior management team, to foster customer intimacy and ensure the client is aware of McKesson's range of capabilities, successful track record, and long term commitment to the clients' priorities;
  • Develops and maintains a positive relationship with each account to ensure outstanding service and communication.
  • Responds to account problems or complaints.  Follows-up on issues and takes the steps necessary to resolve them and ensure smooth day-today operations.
  • Works with McKesson Canada departments, including but not limited to Finance, Operations, Customer Service and Procurement, to ensure that proper services are provided to the account, to and resolve issues and to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Meets with vendors and account staff to discuss shared goals and to ensure that the needs of all parties are met.
  • Communicates with stores to review the needs of individual stores as well as possible solutions to any identified problems.
  • Articulate and present to internal/external Senior Mgt.  & recommend and execute action plans on a perpetual basis
  • Interact directly with Business Development Representatives and individual accounts to identify and resolve service, financial (contractual), or other issues they may have.
  • Establish resources to be utilized to support  the growth and recruitment of individual pharmacies - navigate market presence, establish customer approach, establish report mechanisms to share intel, positive/negative feedback to Senior Account Mgt. 




Section B - Position Requirements


  • An Undergraduate degree;
  • Strong knowledge of McKesson Canada's offerings and divisions
  • Solid understanding of Ontario pharmaceutical market and industry, including key stakeholders and roles in value chain
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Pharmacy retail business model.
  • Possesses service knowledge and existing key strategic relationships with executives in key operational areas
  • Strong financial and business acumen and the ability to create and defend a business case;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strategic account strategy
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating contracts;
  • Solid experience in working with and communicating strategies and opportunities to an executive, account management, and business unit operations teams;
  • Strong leadership skills, can lead, inspire, mentor, develop and guide a team of professionals
