Description

The Manager, Technical Processing drives profitable growth of Economical's Commercial Insurance business by overseeing the execution of  Technical Processing processes and services that meet or exceed Brokers' needs and expectations. Reporting to the AVP, Regional Underwriting Operations, this role leads a remote/virtual team of Technical Processing resources and their Team Leaders. He/she is accountable for execution of consistent Underwriting processing activities. He/she is responsible for overseeing that all  Technical Processing processes and decisions are completed in accordance with Underwriting guidelines, standard operating procedures, and Economical's Line of Business (i.e., Commercial Insurance) and segmentation strategies.

Key Accountabilities

Strategy and Planning:
- Supports the AVP, Regional Underwriting Operations in translating the Commercial Insurance strategic plans into detailed people, process, and technology plans for Technical Processing function, including definition of tactical initiatives
- Drives the implementation of people, process, and technology plans within the Technical Processing function and collaborates with peers within National and Regional Underwriting and Sales and Distribution operations, as appropriate, to ensure alignment with the overall National and Regional operating models and Line of Business and segmentation strategies
- Engages Underwriting leadership to define the services to be provided by the Technical Processing function, and supports continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service excellence and operational effectiveness of the function
- Supports and provides input to the development and validation of service level agreements, productivity levels, and KPIs to be executed by the Technical Processing function

People Management and Development:
- Oversees strategic workforce management for his/her function including resource planning, retention management, succession management as well as informing and appropriately leveraging Economical's recruiting strategy
- Manages a remote/virtual team effectively by proactively engaging Direct Reports and frontline resources on a regular basis and applying techniques to build engagement, commitment, and collaboration among team members
- Develops, coaches/mentors and manages the performance of Direct Reports, including identification of areas where performance improvement plans are needed to ensure achievement of business, functional and individual productivity levels as well as service level agreements
- Ensures staff are provided with Underwriting authority appropriate for their capability levels
- Works with the Regional VPs; AVP, Regional Underwriting Operations; and Workforce Optimization resources to identify and forecast demand and skillset requirements for Technical Processing resources; works with his/her Direct Reports to appropriately allocate resources
- Helps build a culture of high performance and sustained profitable growth by promoting and supporting an environment that encourages productivity, collaboration, teamwork, and a high level of professionalism

Program and Change Management:
- Actively champions strategic change initiatives within Regional Underwriting Operations to build understanding and buy-in within the Technical Processing function
- Provides insight, information and recommendations related to Underwriting service delivery and broader organizational and/or enterprise continuous improvement initiatives, as needed, to manage internal relationships with stakeholders

Job Requirements

- University degree in any discipline, or
- College diploma in a relevant discipline
- 10-15 years of relevant Underwriting experience, including 3-5 years of supervisory experience leading teams of Underwriters in the Commercial Insurance industry
- CIP designation, or a commitment to completing the CIP is required
- Exceptional customer service, verbal and written communication skills
- Strong management and leadership skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with business partners
- Strong analytical thinking and planning skills
- Strong ability to influence and effectively negotiate with stakeholders
- Preference will be given to candidates who have experience effectively managing a team of remote resources
