The successful Power Line Technician (PLT)Sub-Foreperson will perform all the duties that a Power Line Technician journey person would perform

  • It shall be the duty of a Sub-Foreman/woman to supervise the work of the individuals under their charge in such a manner that work shall be carried on safely, efficiently and expeditiously
  • The duties and responsibilities of a Sub-Foreman/woman include such activities as:
    • instructing and directing workers in the performance of their duties,
    • planning and coordinating work for others (including contractors),
    • supervising and assigning work to employees,
    • responsible for the preparation and quality control of all work under their charge,
    • assuring that all work related documentation, information and records are updated,
    • liaising with appropriate internal and external parties as required, and
    • providing feedback to crew members on their performance in order that work is carried out safely, efficiently, and expeditiously


The successful candidate will have:

  • A trade qualification as a Journeyman Power Line Technician/Lineman with an Interprovincial red seal certificate or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years in the trade with Transmission and Distribution construction experience
  • Hot Stick and Rubber Glove experience is preferred
  • The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years crew lead experience
  • Class 3 driver's licence with airbrake endorsement or the ability to obtain the same in B.C
  • Physical ability to perform work, including comfort in working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Normal colour vision
  • An ability to function well in a crew environment and be able to work independently when needed
  • Good communication skills


This position is affiliated with the international Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union (IBEW local 258)

  • All applicants meeting the requirements will be given a computer based comprehensive qualifying test covering safety, work procedures, work planning, environmental issues, and tools and a skills check. Applicants successful in passing qualifying test and skills check will be eligible for an interview.
  • The Sub-Foreperson Power Line Technician hourly wage rate is currently $43.83 in agreement between the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW 258) and BC Hydro
  • Successful candidates will have the opportunity to shape their benefits plans to meet their individual needs as an employee
  • Benefits include: Basic life insurance, basic accident insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, medical services plan coverage, extended health care, paramedical services, vision care, and dental care.
  • This location is eligible for a remote incentive for 12%. The remote incentive is paid bi-weekly and is a percentage of your regular earnings.
  • A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver's License: Class 3 (with air brake endorsement) In Good Standing
