Job Description


Weatherford is currently looking for a Laboratory Supervisor in Edmonton, AB to support our Engineered Chemistry department.

This position is accountable for the supervision and development of the WEC laboratory and laboratory personnel for the technical support of the Production Chemicals sales team. The Laboratory Supervisor will also be responsible for leading and coordinating the laboratory staff to provide analytical support to sales, external customers, technical services, R&D, manufacturing and quality control.   This position also requires that the individual be a working supervisor; the individual will be expected to assume some testing duties.

As the Laboratory Supervisor you will be required to:

  • Direct, lead, and control the laboratory activities, testing services and lab personnel
  • Oversee the following: Quality Management, Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance, Legal and Ethical Compliance, training, support, motivation, guidance, coaching, education and direction to the laboratory team
  • Improve skill level by joining and participating in professional and industry associations and events; investigate new trends and innovations in analytical testing or oil field testing.
  • Technical writing requirements include; providing testing reports, developing and writing support material for the technical and sales teams.  Also overseeing lab support personnel reports for accuracy and grammar.
  • Communicate effectively and accurately with technical services, sales, R&D, manufacturing and external customers on analytical testing results.
  • Ensure that laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and serviced. 
  • Ensure direct reports understand, appreciate and maintain compliant with Weatherford safety and training requirements, policies and procedures. 
  • Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree in related technical field of Engineering or Science.
  • Certification or training in NACE or SPE would be beneficial
  • Minimum 7 years of related laboratory experience and 5 years in Production Chemicals or Gas and Oil Production.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications will be necessary.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug, alcohol and medical testing.
  • Previous supervisory experience an asset
