Chief Estimator - Civil (#274799)
Our client is seeking a Chief Estimator to join our their Civil team in Edmonton, AB. Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Chief Estimator is responsible for the mentorship, development and ongoing supervision of the Estimating team. The Chief Estimator is also involved in the full cycle preparation and coordination of competitive bids for the Civil group.
Our client builds and maintains infrastructure in various industries including oil and gas, transportation, and mining. They're experts in public and private infrastructure construction and maintenance - from national highways to bridges, from airports to underground utilities and independent power projects. They also work on roads, earthworks, foundations, dams, power systems, and waterways.
. Oversees estimating and budgeting management for assigned projects, provides clear direction to estimating team members, and distributes workload to capitalize on individual and group strengths while ensuring balanced exposure to work experience and development opportunities
. Supervises the solicitation and selection of trades and suppliers regarding invitations, addendums, tender/bid closings and maintenance within a database
. Supervises estimating staff that provides quantity take-offs for important, designated areas of the estimate while ensuring the take-off is well notated for hand-over to the project team and includes safety and security requirements required by company policies and applicable legislation
. Manages all aspects of bidding including the analysis of plans, specifications, proposals, pre-qualifications and other documentation to assist estimating teams in preparation of bid estimates for projects
. Performs or supervises the preparation of complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of estimate proposals for management and client review; prepares conceptual estimates by interpreting historical data
. Applies knowledge and skills through the handling of complex problems and shares expertise with the estimating team; provides guidance to non-estimating personnel on their estimating related requirements
. Manages and supervises costs and profitability across multiple projects, provides input to the estimating, project and senior management team on all estimating and financial matters
. Interfaces and communicates effectively (written and oral) with other estimating staff, all levels of management, clients and industry contacts; contacts and develops business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimates
. Explores future opportunities pursuant to the business plan and coordinates with business units to meet business goals
. Performs other related duties as assigned
. 10+ years related industry estimating experience including a variety of complex multi-disciplined projects. Experience within civil, earthworks or foundations industries is an asset
. Completion of post-secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Engineering or related education
. Has developed technical knowledge of modern construction practices, techniques, equipment and documents
. Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, how to develop project schedule, and assess estimates for potential risk
. Strong computer background including experience with related estimating software and MS Office; stays current with development of estimating technology in the marketplace
. Able to manage multiple priorities, projects, deadlines and locations and coordinate resources from multiple business units and locations
. Able to anticipate problems and challenges, propose innovative solutions and ensure solutions are consistent with the organizations' objectives
. Able to create formal networks with key decision makers internally and influential players in own discipline externally on strategic and other issues and make presentations at senior management and client level
. Act as a facilitator, mentor and a team leader or key technical contributor in extremely complex or interdependent projects; conducts performance management meetings for staff
