Underwriting Assistant

The Underwriting Assistant works through a rotating schedule of duties which are key to the management of correspondence throughout the department.ÿ Duties include screening, recording, and distributing correspondence and well as reviewing and forwarding payments to Head Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides friendly and courteous service
  • Mail: review, record and distribute incoming mail for the department
  • Payments: review, screen and record incoming payments and then forward for processing
  • New Business without Payment - screen new applications without payments using various programs as part of the process; record applications and make ready for distribution.
  • New Business with Payments - screen new applications with payments using various programs as part of the process; review payments and make ready for processing; record, assign and distribute applications
  • Inspections - receive, review and order inspection requests; receive, record and distribute completed inspections; print mail from the general mailbox; update databases; check, order and distribute department supplies
  • Floater: record completed applications; manage "Junk" , "unbound applications" and "missing information" responses; assist others as needed
  • Performing other duties as assigned including occasionally training other members of the Support team
  • Represents Wawanesa in a respectful and professional manner, applying the principal of good faith in all dealings

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma and relevant administrative experienceÿ
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge and use of common software: Lotus Notes, Excel, Word and the internet Skills and Abilities
  • A passion for customer service
  • Attention to detail
  • Copes well under pressure
  • Proficient keyboarding and data entry skills
  • Organizational and time management abilities Works well within a team
