Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Senior Media Specialist is responsible for providing media relations support and building media profile for Sun Life Financial special projects, national media campaigns and Sun Life Financial Canada.
Main accountabilities and key responsibilities
Draft and edit media materials
Develop and execute external communications plans to drive media coverage
Build media relationships and proactively pitch opportunities to key media contacts
Partner with the internal communications counterpart to execute integrated communications plans
Provide strategic advice to senior leaders, key business partners and spokespeople
Support proactive programs to build Sun Life's profile
Manage media inquiries by responding and coordinating interview requests
Support media relations programs including media campaigns, media events and news conferences
Develop media reports to measure results
Manage distribution of news releases
Be a part of the team's rotational media on-call schedule

Proven ability in delivering results to increase media coverage
Proven ability to coordinate multiple activities to meet media deadlines
Proficient project management, media campaign development and consulting skills

Degree or diploma in journalism, media relations, communications or public relations
University or college degree
Experience within the financial services industry
Minimum 3 years of experience working in media and public relations with a proven track record
Post secondary education in a related field
Financial services experience
Existing relationships with national and regional media
