As the our Oracle DBA you will be involved in business projects for Global Technology Services. You will be responsible for system enhancements and upgrades for the Implementation and Production Management Database Administration team and supporting applications. You will also be responsible for providing ongoing client support to all related business units.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

You manage databases for production support and new projects. You assist in the team effort to maximize the availability, security, and performance of the databases.
You are responsible for configuration planning and installation of Oracle servers.
You monitor performance and the capacity of the databases supported.
You performance tune and load balance the servers.
You perform routine maintenance including database rebuilds, re-indexing, expansions and archiving.
You trouble shoot Oracle server problems and assist in the resolution of application issues.
You facilitate server upgrades and conversions.
You assist in promotions, data conversions, back-up and recovery of local and remote replicated databases.
You provide database administration support to development and implementation projects.
You load the database and test the applications on the server.
You prepare change control documentation.
You possess strong analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
You have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
You will be required to carry a pager and be on call for after-hours support of the Scotiabank's database administration. The pager is part of a team rotation to support 24/7 operations.
You provide remote dial in support and occasional on-site support in response to routine monitoring alerts, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks. These events occur after hours and on weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Five years of experience as an Oracle DBA.
Five years of experience with Oracle 9i, 10g, 11g and 12c.
Five years of experience with Sun Solaris system and utilities.
Five years of experience with device configuration, installation and stored procedures.
Five years of experience with clustering and database replication.
Five years of experience with database re-build and de-fragment techniques.
Five years of experience with logical and physical backup along with recovery techniques.
Five years of experience with application side tuning versus server side tuning.
Experience with use of Oracle RAC, OLAP, OWB, OEM, Perl, MS-SQL and Sybase is an asset to the role.

EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:

A recognized degree in computer science or a related discipline.
