Canadian Western Bank's corporate communications team is seeking an experienced, confident and positive addition to our team whose keen instinct for communications prowess is matched only by their desire to have a little bit of fun. This seasoned generalist is an individual contributor who can readily tackle internal and external communications planning, execution and measurement for dedicated internal client groups, is confident in providing strategic communications advice to senior leaders, and thrives on showcasing their talent in a challenging and ever-growing portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, the Senior Communications Advisor will spend their days planning, writing, editing, pitching ideas, curating content, managing digital channels, planning events, and enjoying the company of a talented, driven team of communicators and creatives (the bankers we work with are pretty great too).

Education

What you've achieved:

  • A degree or diploma with a focus on communications, public relations or journalism required
  • Minimum five years' experience in a communications role with responsibility for communications process from strategic planning to execution to measurement with limited supervision
Experience/Aptitude

How you'd describe yourself:

  • A well-rounded communicator who sees the big picture but is also a tactical expert
  • A skilled writer with experience in a professional environment where you've communicated complex issues in an accessible way
  • A confident self-starter with the ability and desire to take initiative, make decisions and provide strategic communications advice senior leadership with support from management, but limited supervision
  • An avid multi-tasker with strong organizational, project management and coordination skills who can meet deadlines and adapt quickly to shifting priorities
  • A networker who has the ability to establish and maintain strong internal relationships and networks

A couple of extras we consider to be assets:

  • You're a communications tools ninja, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media platforms and analytics tools
  • You've worked in a content management system before (we use Sitecore)
  • You're a member of IABC or CPRS
Responsibilities

What we'll entrust you with:

Strategic planning and advice

  • Work with dedicated internal clients to develop and execute on strategic internal and external communications plans that deliver on business objectives in an engaging way
  • Cultivate positive and productive relationships with internal clients and external partners to advance mutual goals and maintain a coordinated communications approach
  • Contribute to the development of CWB's digital presence, providing strategic advice and insight on content and structure enhancements for websites, intranet and social media channels
  •  

Brand management

  • Ensure all communications efforts adhere to corporate style guide and enhance, protect and promote CWB's reputation
  • Monitor traditional and digital media
  • Monitor multiple email inboxes (external, intranet and website) to ensure stakeholders receive timely responses and potential concerns are flagged for management

Content creation and management (shared responsibility with CWB's Communications Officer)

  • Co-manage creation and dissemination of The Weekly, CWB's employee eNewsletter
  • Day-to-day administration of CWB's intranet, including content planning, coordination and creation, audits and structural changes
  • Create, administer and publish content for the CWB Group websites, serving as the primary approver in the content management system (Sitecore)
  • Co-manage internal and external editorial calendars
  • Work in collaboration with CWB's Digital Marketing Specialist and a third-party agency to deliver a cohesive web and social presence
  • Develop a plan and actively manage the analytics and measurement of our various communications and tools
  • Research and create speaking notes or presentations for senior leadership

Event planning and sponsorship

  • Provide communications support for events and sponsorship activities
  • Plan internal events that align with employee engagement objectives
