DUTIES:

Reporting to the Dean, Academic Services & Student Affairs, the Director of Academic Services and Learning Resources is accountable for the strategic management and operations of the Library Learning Commons, and Assessment and Learning Centres on three campuses. The Director provides strong leadership to the development of a comprehensive plan that ensures the delivery of efficient, effective and responsive services, facilities, and technological resources.

The Director is responsible for providing state-of-the art technologies, and academically sound and viable resource collections. In alignment with the College’s strategic mandate and Academic Plans, and in collaboration with Academic Divisions, the incumbent ensures the delivery of high-quality learning support services both within the libraries and divisions. The Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of a sustainable student-centred computing strategy. Managing a large staff team within a unionized environment, the Director proactively identifies and supports professional development to optimize performance and sets the tone for a positive work culture.

Specific areas of accountability include: library services, open access computing, student computing strategy, tutoring and learning services, assessment testing including online LMS-based testing, photo-id services, copyright compliance, captioning and e-text policy, compliance and services, and archives and records management policy and services. The incumbent is also accountable for the operation of the IELTS Test Centre and a self-sustaining business unit.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of academic library and learning support systems, practices, trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Strong and demonstrated management capability; Leadership skills at a Senior Level and working with various levels of management within an academic or organizational setting
  • Twelve years of progressive management experience within a post-secondary environment is preferred
  • Experience developing, implementing, sustaining and evaluating academic support programs in a learning services environment is preferred
  • Demonstrated Financial Management skills are essential
  • Ability to solve complex problems creatively, effectively and within strict budgets.
  • Ability to create a working environment that stimulates achievement, commitment and satisfaction.
  • Forward thinking with an understanding of the future directions of library and learning support services as well as trends in education and instructive technology.
  • Process Engineering and/or experience with change management initiatives or programs.
  • Experience managing people within a unionized environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an environment with a diversity of people and situations.
  • Experience working in a fast faced and multi-location environment is preferred.
  • Education at the Masters level, Masters of Library and Information Science Degree, or               M.Ed. (e.g. Higher Education Leadership or equivalent), or Business Administration with a focus on Informational Technology
