The Opportunity

LP Investigator

GENERAL SUMMARY:  The LP Investigator has a strong knowledge and understanding of Gap Loss Prevention and Investigation procedures.  Maintains communications with Facility Management to assist in operational direction.  Assists with the recruiting, training, developing and supervising of Loss Prevention Agents.  Utilizes the tools and resources available to initiate, coordinate and manage investigations along with the required audits of the Agents. 


1)      Contribute to shortage reduction/ Investigations     

  • Responsible for conducting Inventory Control Audits in the following areas:
  1. Cross-dock, Shipping, Receiving, trailer documentation, quality control and pick accuracy
  2. If applicable - E-Commerce system audits, Refunds/Returns, Missing Packages, Fraud/Chargebacks
  • Responsible for initiating internal and external investigations based off the above audit results and/or received information from floor associates
  • Responsible for assisting Field Investigators and Field Regional Managers on any pending investigations
  • Advise Loss Prevention Management of all investigations
  • Responsible for conducting all shortage related audits located in the LP Shortage database
  • Assists in Pipeline and Brand Protection investigations; including off-campus site visits and/or surveillances
  • Act as a witness during any loss prevention interviews as conducted by the Market Loss Prevention Manager, Area Investigator or Regional / District Loss Prevention Manager.


2)      Training and Development                                            

  • Works closely with the Canadian Market LP Manager to develop schedules and determine assignments for Loss Prevention Agents.  Oversee the general and daily activities of between 2 - 8 Loss Prevention Agents
  • Participate in and supervise the on-boarding process for all new hires within area of responsibility. Participating in New Employee Orientation classes as well as individual training sessions
  • Ensure  that all LP Agents are performing the daily, weekly and monthly responsibilities such as filing, performing their targeted audits and assisting in the initiation of investigations
  • Train all LP Agents in all aspects of their daily, weekly and monthly responsibilities
  • Train employees in all areas of GIDLP to include roles, tools, and resources of LP Agent  and LP Investigator
  • Monitor work assignments and projects for the Loss Prevention Agents, to assist in their professional development
  • Coordinate  all aspects of each shift by ensuring that all functions of the shift are being executed, (i.e., identification of team members, vendors, bag checks and auditing)
  • Coach and motivate staff to ensure goals are achieved and that service levels are maintained or exceeded


3)      Operations/ Safety                                                         

  • Responsible for the physical security of the facility
  • Review incident reports to ensure compliance with loss prevention standards
  • Maintain communications between Loss Prevention and Facility Management
  • Assist with insurance carrierĂ¢?Ts on-site surveys and inspections
  • Complete all assigned daily, weekly and monthly responsibilities
  • Control all overnight and closed shift trailer activity. Signing and accepting paperwork, logging in trailer information and submitting paperwork on next available shift
  • Coordination of the Loss Prevention and Contract Security staff in the absence of management
  • General duties such as filing Incident, Investigation and Accident reports along with daily logs
  • Act as liaison with Operations Management and assist with their needs as appropriate
  • Can explain all, and work in most, operational departments.  Establishes communication channels with Operations Management to identify target areas of opportunity.  Can manage projects with little supervision while maintaining all deadlines
  • Monitor associate, vendor and visitor entrances and exits from the buildings
  • Conduct bag checks on all associates, vendors and visitors exiting the building
  • Ensure  that contractors and visitors are signed in and escorted to work areas
  • Assist LP Management Team with the daily operations of the department and facility
  • Assumes responsibilities in the absence of the LP Management Team
  • Respond to and/or support medical events  including dispatching life squads, fire department and police department as needed while acting as departmental liaison with these agencies when required
  • Responsible for monitoring, responding and coordinating repairs for all alarms concerning the PC alarm system, and the CCTV system for the campus 24 hours a day
  • Assist with alarm system testing and modifications for the campus by working in conjunction with the alarm company; obtain new bids when required


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:  Will have daily interaction with other Loss Prevention, Facility Management, LP Agents and employees. Seeks advice/direction from the Loss Prevention Management team as needed.


1) Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Knowledge of Loss Prevention and/or security procedures preferred
  • Able to maintain constant awareness of surroundings; attention to detail
  • Must posses good oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated; must be able to multi-task and work in fast paced environment work with little supervision
  • Must present a professional demeanor and appearance at all times
  • Be available to work any shift or facility within campus upon request
  • Preparing computer reports on Windows, Microsoft Office and the LP Shortage Database
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork and flexibility
  • High professional standards regarding customer service and confidentiality
  • Experience conducting and resolving internal and external investigations


2)  Minimum educational/experience level:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Any combination of 4 or more years of related experience or a Bachelors degree form an accredited learning institution
  • Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence
  • Ontario Private Investigator Licence preferred


3)  Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work nights and weekends appropriate to retail business needs.
  • Must be able to stand/walk distribution center floor for hours at a time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs.
