Preferred Background:
Personal Support Worker Certificate from a recognized college that meets the requirements identified in the Long Term Care Homes Act, 2007 is required along with previous experience in geriatrics, rehabilitation or long-term care. The incumbent must be team oriented with the ability to also work independently. Effective communication skills and a genuine desire to care for the elderly are also required along with the ability to manage multiple demands. Must have an understanding of the Residents' Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

Working Conditions:
Must be willing to work shifts. Must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the care and assistance of residents. Successful candidates will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screen and a current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past twelve (12) months) by your first day of employment.

Duties

  • Provides personal care for residents including all activities of daily living to ensure the optimum physical, social and emotional well-being.
  • Communicates effectively with residents, staff and families.
  • Provides excellent customer service at all times. Is respectful, courteous and pleasant. Provides individualized service and creates a home-like atmosphere.
  • Observes and reports changes in the resident's status.
  • Records necessary data (e.g. flow sheets).
  • Shares responsibility for care of equipment in the Home and personal belongings of residents. 
  • Works co-operatively with team members.
  • Receives direction from registered staff.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
