Job Description

Property Accountant

Reporting into the Controller, the Property Accountant will be responsible for the full accounting process for a portfolio of 25-30 commercial and industrial properties. You will work alongside 3 property accountants, so team work is essential. This position starts ASAP, comes with excellent benefits, and long term stability.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and government remittances
  • Maintain tenant recovery module in accounting system and ensure it agrees to recovery methodology
  • Prepare monthly operating costs and tax recovery estimates
  • Review and analyze financial statements, recovery ratios and provide variance analysis
  • Analyze and balance sheet accounts and maintain working papers
  • Prepare final annual operating costs and tax recovery adjustments, including preparing CAM audit statements
  • Provide information for audit related queries
  • Provide information to property appraisers on a timely basis
  • Assist with property tax appeals
  • Ensure that monthly reporting deadlines are met
  • Ensure instructions to accounting are completed according to procedure
  • Assist in completion of annual budget
  • Prepare bank reconciliations
  • Assist Accounting Supervisor, Controller and CFO with special projects
Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 2 years experience in Commercial Property accounting
  • Must posses a university degree or college diploma, and be in pursuit of your CGA, CMA or CA
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including a proven ability to build relationships
  • Good understanding of property accounting principles, and experience using property accounting software MRI or else Yardi, or JD Edwards
  • Strong computer skills, with a good knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word
  • An assertive self-starter with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
