ESS Support Services provides high volume food and support services to remote locations that include offshore oil rigs, coastal logging camps, large projects in the Alberta Oil Sands, and summer Cadet camps in the Yukon.
Job Rotation: 20 days on, 8 days off Rotation. Position includes lodging/food and flights
Provide supervision and support to the HSEQ onsite team and to the operational teams in Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Assurance.
Sets a high standard for himself/herself and Associates to follow by incorporating safe work practices in all aspects of their activities and follows all ESS and client safety policies and procedures
Assists with the implementation and maintenance of the HSEQ programs
Manages a team of 4 HSEQ staff on multiple sites in the Alberta Oil Sands
Leads Health, Safety and Environment activities within his/her Units
Leads Food Safety activities within his/her Units
Promotes and encourages safety leadership behaviours with management and associates to ensure a positive safety culture
Provides daily coaching to associates reinforcing positive behaviours and addressing at-risk behaviours
Follows up on all non-conformances diligently
Ensure contractual staff levels are maintained by scheduling all staff at all sites and by providing specific site coverage on an emergency basis;
Recruit, interview, hire and train competent and qualified HSEQ staff
Ensure that Units are COR ready at all times
Acts as a liaison between management, client and outside regulatory agencies as necessary
Builds relationships with client and associates
Assures training programs are established and tracked
Provides technical guidance and programs to identify worksite hazards in HSE and in Food-Safety
Ensures corporate compliance with legal and other requirements
Monitors health and safety, environment and quality assurance policies, procedures, protocols and legal requirements
Supports operational "start-up" training/support needs for new units, ongoing training from Food Safety, HSE orientation of new hires in conjunction with Human Resources
Liaison with client's Health and Safety Department, Governmental Agencies (i.e. Public Health, OHS) and Contractors
Performs all risk management requirements and ensures that workers compensation procedures are being followed
Conducts audits, inspections, accident investigations and incident/accident analysis to identify incident trends
Ensures that investigations are conducted thoroughly and in a timely professional manner
Prepares reports including key performance indicators to management and to the client as needed
Represents management on client's Joint Health and Safety Committee as directed by the General Manager
Coordinates safety meetings, assists Joint Health & Safety Committee with the committee's functions
Central point of contact for units in regards to HSEQ concerns
Perform other duties as required
Required (please only apply if you meet all required qualifications):
Must have at least 5-8 years of solid relevant experience in either; Public Health Inspection and or Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment field
OHS Certificate/Diploma/Degree from a recognized university or college is required and or;
Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Public Health from a recognized university or college is required
Advanced Food Safety Certification (AFST) is a definite asset
CPHI an asset
NCSO or HAS an asset
CRSP an asset
Exceptional knowledge of Claims Management and the Return to Work Processes
Fluent in English (oral and in writing) required
Proven training experience (e.g. Advanced FST an asset or obtain within 30 days of employment)
Ability to read, analyze and report information effectively to top management, work with minimal supervision
Reasoning ability: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Ability to promote a positive safety culture by communicating and consulting with the workforce and management on a daily basis.
Proven experience in management of change an advantage
Administrative skills: proven ability to work with office automation including Word, Excel, Power Point, email and internet use
