THE ROLE
As a member of the Underwriting Team, the Intermediate Personal Lines Underwriter will utilize their experience, knowledge and capabilities to review risks for acceptability, underwriting and processing new business, endorsements and renewals within established scope of authority. Working collaboratively across all functional areas, the incumbent will strive to minimize losses, manage risk exposures, and generate beneficial solutions for our customers and BCM overall. Specifically, they will be responsible for:
- Collaborating with Insurance Advisor(s), Underwriter(s), Claim(s) and Loss Prevention Team Members in addressing and resolving client needs.
- Providing technical underwriting expertise for portfolio of risks as per BCM Underwriting Guidelines.
- Analyzing risk material presented to determine coverage eligibility.
- Monitoring portfolio and assisting with file reviews to ensure compliance with contracts.
- Recommending premium appropriate to the level of risk involved. Negotiate acceptance terms, conditions, and pricing.
- Discussing risk alerts with Insurance Advisor(s) on misleading documentation or suspected fraud.
- Escalating with recommendations and requesting authority from Underwriting Manager as required.
- Ensuring compliance with Large Risk, High Value Dwellings and Reinsurance procedures.
- Taking on additional tasks as needed to support departmental needs.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- University Degree or College Diploma in a related field
- 3 – 5 years P&C Underwriting Experience and/or experience in the Insurance Industry
- Actively pursuing Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) Designation
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Guidewire is an asset
- Solid analytical and decision-making skills necessary to rate and acquire risks within authority
- Ability to exercise good judgement in high pressure, sensitive situations
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
