Botox leave, marriage days, and other weird employee benefits
I’d like to think we’ve got it pretty good in Canada when it comes to work. When I think of benefits, however, my mind goes to health plans and RRSP contributions. So what about in other parts of the world? Mercer’s 2012 Worldwide Benefits Guide shows us how some different countries regulate employee benefits.
Some of my favourite highlights:
Australia: Longstanding employees can build up substantial time off for their loyalty. After 15 years that equals 13 weeks of vacation!
Portugal: Employees are legally entitled to 15 days off to get married. (The question is, does this have any effect on divorce rates?)
France: After two years with a company an employee can take a leave of absence for a year…to start or acquire their own business. After that, someone is still entitled to their job or an equivalent position.
England: Botox Leave! Yes, it’s true. You are entitled to time off to get cosmetic procedures done.
