Really good company to work for, nice people,lots to learn(from training/actual jobs/sales and marketing/business management/environmental awareness/social studies) lots of work out too. Make sure to refresh your math (proper and mixed fractions/ geometry) and your science (physics/ecology..even psychology) for these will come in handy later on specially with your haulage and sales/even tipping) 'out- of-this- junk-world' scenarios..also if you are not that accustomed and/or physically conditioned for some(potentially) intense manual work out of a job, these brain formulas can definitely be of some good use as alternative to strength and stamina in terms of problem solving and hauling challenges..at least until those cuts and guns pop out for some real muscle work.
                The hardest part of this job is out and out hating it yet so in denial or just having no other option but to keep doing while hating it. That's really tough...I guess this applies as to any other job. Difference is, easier to tell in this job I reckoned, and the effects at times can be,somehow reflected on your work performance and attitude,which at some point either becomes contagious or perceived to be cohesive or resembling to your clueless,honest-to-goodness coworker, or you as a team per se, it can be generic or influential even and having the tendency to ultimately just go downhill from there. Not fair for anybody, not you, nor your partner,nor the company you represent nor,most of all,your customer who'd be expecting a topnotch professional service as to what she will be guaranteed with, soon as she requests for the use of your service,a promise that would be read or heard several times during her inquiry and booking process,  and could possibly be the exact same reason why you will be knocking at her door and take the opportunity to manage the business with her, fulfill that promise, with some wiggle room most of the time to up sell,re pitch, re assess or even exceed and go beyond her expectations. 95% of customers I have personally dealt with were reasonably lenient and genuinely understanding..and closed our deals with their so gracious hearts and generous rewards.  So tip of advice, once you're done with your test flight/ride along/shadow training or whatnot, be honest with yourself and your choices upfront. Sleep it off- but don't sleep in. Take it or leave it. Trust me, most of those people who were indecisive and hesitant and in denial at this stage..almost always end up in trouble sooner than later. .  
        Best perk of this job is -as most of the junklads' review/feedback- agree on, is the constant changing,continuous flow, endless treasure hunt of all things that- once was of interest,currently interests,may interest,could interest,never thought of or a real off chance on having the slightest interest for  whatsoever..until you did .. Or just a spur of the moment, instant inspiration in accumulating random stuff substantial enough to crown you as the next Hoarder star on TV and earn some extra dollars on your days off sitting at home. Best part is, at no cost at all. And plus, if you wake up the next day all buzzed out and confused why you had to drag a brand new solar powered lawn mower into your 13th floor condo bedroom..all you have to do is drag it right back into the truck and pretend it never happened.
                It was a real great experience and a truly remarkable, significant part of my life working for this company doing this job. Had so much fun and adventure, countless knowledge and skills acquired and developed,so many friends and thousands of people met along the way. I had so much fun working for more than 13 years..much so much  I hardly felt I was working..until I got fired. Hah! Fair 'nuff..it was time for me to go anyways. Still...9/10! Priceless! Glory to junkgods y'all!

P.S. DON'T plan anything after work even schedule promises a short day early on. junkgods are very unpredictable. 

Start work at 8am on average. Truck inspection takes 20-15 min.s and yet you are expected to pull the trucks out and be on the road by 8am.  Two people in each truck.  Each night you find out if there are enough jobs for you to work the next morning and when you get to work you never know what time you will be finishing.  It could be just a few hours or it could turn into an 18 hour day.

Customers are to be called 30 mins before their appointment window starts and appointments start at 8am.  We don't even start work until 8am.  And who wants a call at 7:30 am?

There are no lunch breaks and no 15min breaks.  You are expected to eat in the trucks while driving to the next job.  Your truck partner may not have a licence so you could be doing all the driving all day long trying to eat and drive.

The managers track the trucks by GPS and call you about everything. I was called by a manager for pulling over at a gas station to use the washroom and was interrogated on the phone being asked why I didn't use the washroom at the customer's house!

Management has a difficult job of trying to oversee 15 or so trucks in the franchise everyday with appointments coming and going all day long, and looking at travel time between destinations.  They never know how long an appointment will take and all they have to go on is the truck team's estimate when they get on site.  With that being said there is no need for a manager to be swearing at you on the job or call you for 36min. after clock out at the end of the day at 10pm at night driving home, just to tell you what a terrible job you did.  I just stayed pulled over for another 20 min. trying to wipe away the tears to drive again.

The turnover rate at this job is so bad I didn't know anyone that made it 2 years working in the trucks unless they were management.  Hardly anyone makes it past 3 months and because of this there is no one with experience to train the new hires.  So you have newbies training the newbies so no one knows what they are doing.  When lifting pianos and hot tubs by hand you have to know what you are doing.  Or when completing a truck inspection to make sure your rig is safe, that only comes from proper training.

Promotions are a joke.

Putting Management Aside...
The job its self was great.  I really enjoyed meeting new customers, seeing old customers again and catching up, seeing the relief on customer's faces when the junk is gone and they have their space back, enjoying good music in the truck, finding treasures to bring home, tips from customers when we have done a good job and they want to say thank you, the variety of being outside/inside lifting heavy stuff, to sitting and driving.  

On the rare occasion a manager was too busy to pay attention to us in the trucks working, we were as happy as could be working away doing our jobs but there was still the nagging fear in my gut that a manager might call any moment to pressure us, and tell us we aren't doing enough.  It has been 8 months since I stopped working their and still, every time I hear the same ringtone as the work phone at 1-800-Got-Junk, my anxiety spikes.

Loved the job, could not stand the management.

When I started working for 1800gotjunk it was pretty unorganized but eventually improved slightly. I only worked here for 3 months over the summer and my experience was really good when working with team members. The problem is that there was always a disconnect with management and the team members who were out and doing all the work. 
Let me be very clear and honest, the people I worked with were exceptional and I would consider them my work family. 

During the first few days, you get to tag along and see how the operations work. You get to see how this company works and how to deal with items and customers. 
It was super easy to learn and the hardest part was navigating heavy items through tight confined spaces. Customers were always friendly and supportive. 
The problem with 1800gotjunk is the pay structure. 
You get your wage per hour which was between 15-17 and you do get 'profit share'. Now profit share is extra money on each pay cheque, but the problem was, how did they come up with the formula to pay employees out? 
You have your wage(which is a constant) and then you have to manage your truck and time. What makes you money? Managing recyclables which includes metal. Now, when you collect a very large amount of metal, you have to take it to the metal recycling and they will put it through the 1800gotjunk account. I am assuming that it is organised by the licence plate of the truth you drive and it will go under your profit share. Recycling actually makes you some money but you have to manage yourself well to do that. 
What loses you money? Many dump runs, fuel, damaging or losing equipment. 
1800gotjunk basically makes you the owner/operator of their truck, of course you have a team member in the truck with you, usually a navigator. Now the navigator does not get equal pay as the driver when it comes to 'profit share'. 
When I worked, I did work a lot and did a really good job with my truck management, my full pay after all of that was just a tad over 1200. Now working 5-6 times a week, it really isn't worth it to be honest. 
You do get tips from time to time but it is something you cannot live off of. 
Other than the pay and profit share, travelling around Calgary in the summer was great and amazing. I still recollect from time to time how much fun my teammate and I had. 
Management was a fair bit disorganised most of the time, but when you work tons of hours and bring in money, they do not bug or mess around with you. Well that is my experience. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
1. Keeps you physically active 2. you have a chance to make a lot of money for an entry level position that requires no schooling 3.Most of the team members that get hired on that I worked with in the trucks were absolute beauties . With this kind of job, your colleagues that you work with in the trucks can easily make or break your day and I can confidently say that some of those guys i worked with are a big reason as to why i stuck around for as long as i did 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Arriving to job sites without the proper tools or equipment needed to disassemble items that the customer previously stressed the importance to have which resulted from poor communication skills from dispatch/ management  . Other than that i’d say the odd extremely unreasonable and irate customers ( comes with the territory)

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Every job you do and every day is vastly different . Can go from doing a multiple truck removal in a large commercial office to a nasty hoarder clearout for a residential customer . Most of the people i worked with in the trucks were great guys and they certainly made the bad days easier but as i spent more time with the company and moved into a more team lead / operations position , it became clear that the upper management don’t care about their staff . They care about what brings in the most money and what quick fix they can implement so that the guys in the trucks stop complaining as much . It’s unfortunate because the upper management and the company in general claim how important culture is and being a tight knit team and it’ll seem that way until you have an opinion or idea that goes against their ideas ( in my experience management just wants every one to be their yes men and although challenging their ideas at first seems harmless , it can become an issue once they realize you won’t do what they say )

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Most of the time every 2 days are different . Different customer interactions , new junk to remove (can find some really cool stuff ), working in the different parts of the city with different coworkers while completing jobs posted to your schedule

You will quickly be surprised when you realize just how in-depth full-service junk removal can be. What most people don't realize about this job is its not simply slinging people's junk into a truck. A Driver/Navigator will learn sales, customer service, and marketing in a fun but competitive, fast-paced environment. You'll learn time-management skills, and be responsible to manage appointments while keeping customers happy. It offers exercise, sunshine, and free junk (you would be surprised to see some of the things people throw out). I will warn you, that if you have a sensitive sense of smell or can't lift a fridge out of a basement this job may not be for you.

You'll meet many interesting people; contractors, retail managers, hoarders, celebrities, seniors down-sizing, real-estate agents, just to mention a few of the types of people you'll come across. You will be helping overwhelmed people get rid of the things bogging them down, and while it can be challenging it is also very rewarding.

You'll always have a chance to improve yourself through metrics- and incentive-driven days, and there are enough in-office competitions to keep you on your toes. Your managers will drive you, often with a tough-love approach; their corporate team motto: "to empower each employee to reach their full potential" is very true, and they are every bit as fair and fun as your fellow truck-team members.

The culture is great and there wasn't a single guy that I didn't like working with (which is important when you're spending ten to twelve hours with the person). There are many fun events you can participate in, including the Junk-Indy, paintball, a basketball team, and 5k races to name a few. 1-800-Got-Junk? is very committed to giving back to the community by donating and recycling a large percentage of all junk hauled. Their annual yard sale for the cure raised $30,000 this year for breast cancer and continues to increase every year.

All in all it was a great experience, and I learned many skills that will be transferable to any future career.

After working at 1800-GOT-JUNK for a substantial amount of time I can confidently tell you to look elsewhere for employment.

 Your average day will consist of intense manual labour in extreme heat (at least in the summer), potentially dangerous jobs in which you will be pressured by higher ups to “get the job done” for the revenue (of which you won’t see a penny of), and no scheduled breaks (and your schedule will often be jam packed with ridiculous routes) and with the little free time you get you’re expected to advertise for the company, whether that be door hangers, signs or waves. You will only be making 14 an hour base wage which the boss thinks is too much and is always looking for opportunities to pay you less (cutting shifts, hiring a manager who’s main job is streamlining “overtime management”). Many other similar junk companies start at 16 (what you cap out at with 1800) and go upwards into the 20’s. You make profit share but it’s hard to get on it and it’s mostly negligible. Workers have been there for 8 months without profit share. Most of your extra money comes from tips which are unreliable. 

Your shifts are routinely cut often without even a few hours notice. Despite being scheduled for 4-5 days a week you can often expect to work more like 3. The management sees you simply as disposable “contractors” and don’t care if you need to pay rent or make money for school. Most of the higher ups in the company wouldn’t last one day on the job but find it easy to tell you what to do (ie keep your polo tucked in after a 4 hour disgusting job in a tiny shed) on your route while lounging on a comfortable chair in the air conditioned office, eating fast food. 

The company is also very reluctant to fire the bad workers despite having overhired and instead will cut the shifts of the good workers. The best part of the job is the guys you work with and the off chance that you get a relaxing day with good tips. Overall you’re much better off finding a job at another junk company such as 505-JUNK.

If you are tired of having a job where you keep checking the time on your phone, waiting for it to hit 5 o'clock then this is the job for you. Being apart of the 1800GOTJUNK Toronto team is a blast. Everyday is something different and the work is very dynamic which was the major quality that sold me on this job. As a driver, your typical day is spent simultaneously performing the roles of customer service/sales rep, driving and logistical planning, and performing various degrees of physical labour. The shift flies by  because most of the time you're racing against the clock. 

There's many ways to earn extra cash on the job, such as through tips, winning contests (company gives away weekly/monthly gift cards for performance), and keeping the cool things you find on the job!

You get to see new parts of the GTA and meet tons of new people. You'll work with different co-workers almost every shift which keeps the days interesting and fresh. 

GOTJUNK has created a fun and competitive work environment. They reward crews and individuals for daily, weekly and annual goals reached. 

Management has an open door policy. They are relatable and eager to help with any issues you have. The company as a whole genuinely wants you to succeed, whether that is out in the trucks or in your own personal development. There is a strong sense of team throughout the workplace. 

Overall, what you put into this job is what you get out. If you show up unprepared, with a bad attitude and poor work ethic you won't succeed and frankly this job isn't for you. However, if you aren't afraid of hard work, if you have a positive attitude, and are a resourceful, ambitious person you will not only make great money but you'll have a good time while you do it.

The job itself is pure call center job.

PROS:

7) Lots of opportunity for advancement in the company
8) Hourly pay plus outcome of your monthly calls equals more money
9) They will train you really well/ no experience needed but minimum requirement is be empathetic/ willing to learn
10) Flexible schedule for students and they will try to accommodate your schedule
11) You can relax while waiting for calls
12) Whoever is in charge of you will reach out to see how you are doing or if you are struggling
13) It feels fulfilling to be able to help customers
14) Workplace is very diverse and respectful

CONS:
1) Could be draining as you stare at a computer for your entire shift
2) The application that the company uses could be frustrating as it acts up sometimes
3) Could be challenging/frustrating sometimes (when you ask a question they puzzle you for you to answer your own question)
4) Luck plays a huge part on games/on the job itself
5) There are steps that we follow in the job but there are customers that are not willing to listen to you 
6) Close to minimum hourly pay and it varies on your location
7) Highly competitive 
8) Bonus isn't guaranteed if don't do well with your calls (if you do bad then you get just hourly pay)
9) Too much information to take in (too much to learn)
10) Sometimes, there is nothing you can do for the customer when you reach out for help because it is either they are busy or they are not there
11) You may encounter a weird/rude call from a customer

Management? They're like the backbone of this operation! Supportive, understanding, and always there to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. It's not just about getting the job done; it's about doing it with heart and integrity, and our management team embodies that ethos.

Workplace culture? It's like a big, happy family reunion every day! We're a tight-knit bunch, united by our passion for decluttering and our commitment to excellence. There's no room for negativity or drama here; just good vibes and a shared sense of purpose.

Now, the hardest part of the job? Well, I won't lie, hauling heavy loads in sweltering heat or bone-chilling cold can be tough. But you know what they say - no pain, no gain! And seeing the look of relief on our customers' faces makes it all worthwhile.

This job is not for everyone, but it is amazing if you can handle it. The atmosphere and culture are second to none, and you will have fun!

The cons:

Hard work. Manual labor that requires at least some level of fitness.

Long hours. Depending on how busy and what season, the hours can be long.

Dirty. You will get dirty. If you do not like doing laundry, this job is not for you.

The pros:

Culture. The culture is everything for this job. TTMs (Truck Team Members) have tons of fun bonding with fellow TTMs and customers. This job builds real friendships. I am no longer an employee and live 3 times zones away and still talk to my old co-workers. People skills and customer service are very important for team members to possess, thus, everyone is outgoing and fun.

Management. The upper management cares about it's employees and goes to great lengths to make sure employees are safe and happy.

Stress relief. Having a bad day? Stressed out? Smash some junk in a truck and release some endorphins. You will feel better. 

Perks. Coffee and snacks were always available at the office to fuel you for the work day. If you need an end table to really tie your living room together, you can and will find a nice one that someone else does not want. 

Upward Mobility; If you prove that you are reliable, smart, and a go-getter, you will have the opportunity to move up to positions with more responsibility. This is a true meritocracy.

The bottom line is, if you are willing to work hard and do your job correctly, you will flourish with your Junk family. Look forward to a fun, interesting atmosphere. You will face new challenges daily and never be bored. If you don't like doing the same, boring thing every day then you will be happy with this job.
