49th Parallel Grocery

Working at 49th Parallel Grocery has been a mixed experience for me. The atmosphere is generally friendly and welcoming, which makes it easier to enjoy the day-to-day tasks. The team is supportive, and I appreciate the camaraderie among colleagues; we often help each other out during busy hours. 

The management is decent, but there are times when communication can be lacking. Sometimes, it feels like important updates or changes don’t reach everyone in a timely manner, which can be frustrating. However, my supervisors are usually willing to listen to feedback, which is a positive aspect.

The work itself can be demanding, especially during peak shopping hours. There are moments when it feels overwhelming, but that’s to be expected in any grocery store. The physical demands of stocking shelves and helping customers can take a toll, but it’s rewarding to interact with a variety of people each day.

On the downside, the pay could be more competitive, especially considering the cost of living in the area. Benefits are modest, and while the discount on store products is nice, I wish there were more incentives for long-term employees.

Overall, I would say that working at 49th Parallel Grocery has its ups and downs. It’s a decent job for those looking for part-time work or entry-level experience, but it may not be the most fulfilling career choice for everyone. With some improvements in management communication and employee benefits, it could be a more attractive workplace.

Blooms At The 49th is the flower/plant section of the grocery store.  It is a busy place and the day goes by quickly.  Physical strength is required to do the job, with lots of lifting.  It was so disappointing to work there.  It sounded like a positive and creative place to be but the atmosphere was toxic on some days.  Very poor management.  Staff treated without kindness or respect.  So very sad to have a place with such creative potential that isn't realized.  The pay is impossible to live on.  Being surrounded by flowers is nice though and the walk in customers were great.

the manager won’t give you a raise at all no matter how hard you work there’s no reward They will make you work stupid shifts 
If you ask for weekends off they will make you work the weekends or when you first start and they ask you which days can’t you work they will slowly start making you work those days 
Employees get 5% off which is 25 cents 
A complete joke no benifit for the employee at all the PST just makes up the 25 cents that was taken off 
Deli department is a toxic environment 

Avoid here if you can help it.
Not a bad job for teenagers looking to have a part time position, or a full time summer job, but for the love of all that is holy, do not work here if you are expecting a career.
They will run you into the ground and expect the world of you, all for maybe a dollar more an hour than some of the teenagers make.
The 49th is an old fashioned company in a modern world. They need to have some serious change in their values, or they will not survive.
Don't waste your time

Awful company to work for, even worse management at the department level. Managers treat staff like the store is their only priority, you can not take sick days with out being guilted cause they are understaffed. Mangement just really sucks, say they will follow up and never do. Steer clear of this company especially when so many places are currently hiring. 

I enjoy working at the 49th. The store is usually fairly busy so the day goes by fast. The team I work with is a good group that make the work fun. The 49th hosts a variety of products for multiple  cultures . Our customer base is local with many tourist during spring and summer months . 

Good environment with awesome co-workers. Management is great. Schedule could be more consistent, and pay is low. The most enjoyable part of the job was socializing with customers and co-workers. 

I have been working at the 49th for 10 years now. It is a wonderful place to work. The owners and management team care about each employee and have built an uplifting, work environment for their staff.  

The 49th is the best and so accommodating to work for. Being A single mom of 4 they always do their best to work around us. The staff are also amazing. The 49th will always be my favourite place to work. 

Enjoyed working in the outdoor garden center - except when the heat wave came on! No fans or a/c, unlike the rest of the grocery store! I got heat exhausted and could barely speak.
