What do I even say about this place? The term "slave labor" comes to mind when I think about all of the stuff I did as per the managers request, but for no purpose. I was playing the role of managerial god and in the end I was just a puppet. Let me break this down:

I'd go into work for my 2-10, I'd clock in at the back, I'd walk out to droning coworkers who were only happy to see me because I was relieving them of their duties and that was that. I'd stand at the front for the first 20-30 minutes of a shift, ring people through, help them with anything they needed and that was that. From there I'd be changing garbage, sweeping/mopping the floor, changing out coffee, cleaning up spills and messes throughout the workplace, managing merchandise facing, appropriation and overall display (for the sake of making it harder for people to steal without us noticing), restocking and arranging the vault and at the end of the night... dreaded cash out. It was, suffice it to say, an incredibly easy job (if not grueling to do) and it paid enough with the forty-hours a week it was giving me to make ends meet for the time being. 

Now while it doesn't sound so bad, here's the part you haven't heard yet: the manager was not a nice fellow, and he was out to get you - all of you. The issue is that our manager was fairly biased in that he didn't like anyone who wasn't Filipino - like him - and so the color of your skin and the nature of your heritage was a big thing. What could you do about it? Nothing. What did it result in? For me, it resulted in absolutely RIDICULOUS messes in the vault; a scattering of plastic, cardboard and things being misplaced, broken or opened. It was unpleasant, it was unfair and it took up the better half of my time in the vault trying to arrange things and restock them as the day would drag on- which would lead to him yelling at me because I took so long in the vault and had to shirk some of my other duties until it was finished... because then, if I didn't finish it he would yell at me for that and I even got written up for it. What do you do when you can't win?

Something I learned at this job, just like the one that came before it, was how to deal with difficult individuals who aren't at all happy to see you, be near you or even speak to you. There's a special kind of ignorance that breeds in people who are miserable, and unfortunately it's just something you have to accept. At the end of the day, I've taken it upon myself to try and make others in the workplace - be it friend, foe or stranger - happier for what and who they are, where they are and why they're doing whatever it is they're doing. It's a skill I've obtained in the time I've had to cope with all of the buzz regarding a myriad different issues wherein someone is a jerk, usually me even if I'm not.

My coworkers were lazy for the most part, uninspired and not totally willing to fulfill their job duties. I can only speak for one whom went above what I even did. She may as well have been the manager, because she dealt with every single little problem, she did payroll, she did item counts, she dealt with customer disputes, she did it ALL. She was the one coworker I enjoyed working with because she was: fun to be around, agreeable, a little obnoxious but in a good way, hardworking and overall made my life easier. She was the type of coworker you could confide in, lean on or depend upon for anything. A truly admirable worker, and I always aspired to do better and be more to the standard which she held for herself. 

In the end, I think that about sums up the experience I had there and what I would say in regards to reviewing it. It's not a nice place, it's not great work... but it is easy, even if easy is relative.

Typical days at this job, you're juggling multiple tasks at once.
You're often refilling slurpie and coffee cups, making sure the roller grills are stocked with the right numbers of different kinds of hotdogs and smokies, while making sure they stay fresh, and tending to customers who are buying products or asking to get filled up at a pump for a certain amount.
All at the same time, i feel like it's worthy of mention, you're multi-tasking all these, and even after those, there's keeping the store floor clean, all the products fronted and faced, making sure the windows are cleaned, and even keeping hot chocolate and coffee machines clean and filled, even making sure the bathrooms are cleaned aswell.
At the end of shift, there's counting the money, putting about 80-95% of it away for storing, save for coins, only bills, making sure to put all 50s away and every 5 20s away.
If there's nothing to do, you're checking everything to make sure it's all good, clean, fresh and stocked. There's always something to do, you're never bored and I love it.

I personally have learned that there's always something to do, how to properly clean windows, coffee trays/machines, making coffee, how to operate store computers such as the till's touch screen interfaces, authorizing gas pumps, I've even learned more about foodsafe while doing the online training at work.
Everything I did above, I can do nowadays.

The Managers were very nice and sociable, the interview for the job wasn't stressful or anxiety-inducing, they did a good job of making sure I didn't feel like it was an interrogation, which made me excited for the job. They were always on top of things and doing something when at work.

My co-workers were also fairly nice, a couple were a bit bossy at times, but that's guaranteed if you're in training after all. nobody really hung me out to dry during my training period which was very nice, and for the most part they taught me well in how to do everything, though not well enough to keep the job after the training period. But I know that I can be welcomed back with more experience under my belt so it's all good either way.

The Hardest Part of the job would have to be serving the food while completing transactions for people, while others need gas and are already inside, only once have I ever actually screwed up on the job however, which was at that specific time, I handled it fairly well, save for when afterwards I started having a panic attack and had to take a 5 minute break.
It's the time where multiple people who all need different things comes in, when the job reaches the biggest point of difficulty.

The part I loved most about working at 7-Eleven, would be any time I would be fronting and facing products and just organizing things, I'm very good at it after all, one easily enjoys what they're good at usually.
Other than that, it would be whenever i get to talk to people, since as a cashier you're also a greeter, but kinda have to greet others, even while multi-tasking.

I only worked here for 6 months, recently put in my notice and I couldn't be more excited to be out of that place. Management was HUGE on favouritism, ignoring and refusing to work with accommodations for disabilities or basic physical limitations, I got written up for a day I couldn't go in because I got into a car accident and had to go to the hospital for tests to make sure I didn't have any internal injuries. They'll hire you as a certain position, part or full, and give you the exact opposite. I was hired as full time midnight crew, and my schedules were maximum 30 hours for an entire month as morning crew. Have an issue with a coworker? Don't bother telling the higher ups, they'll just tell you they'll look into it and no action is taken. I've never seen a place hire so many people while also losing so many people, in 6 months we had 10 employees leave and we brought in just about the same amount. They expect you to turn the world upside down at the snap of your fingers for them, that's their definition of flexible schedules. If you have a sick day, you better be ready to cover half of the employees when they get sick because you'll have it held against you till you're in your grave. Management could not have been more careless about the health of their staff, unless you're pregnant they will make you go above your physical limitations especially if you're disabled in anyway. You'll work yourself into the grave at this job and still be told you're not doing good enough, get threatened with write ups, and in my situation be told you're unreliable because you couldn't come to work after having the car you're in flip into a ditch. I'm happy I left this place, only good thing about it was the few coworkers I bonded with and they were the only thing that made the job tolerable. It's disgusting how the workers are treated for how much work we do while we're told we aren't good enough or we aren't doing enough work during our shifts when we're busting our backs out to deal with foot traffic rushes and online order rushes. 

Trained at another store, it was great except for a few nasty employees. Then when I read finished training I got transferred and this is where everything went downhill so quickly. 
Manager basically fell into the job after 20 years of being a sales associate, let's be honest, he didn't know how to manage at all. He wanted to not hurt peoples feelings and he was way too soft on people.
The Filipinos that were hired there knew they could get away with walking all over him so they all got weekends off, the regular staff never did. 
I got told they would be training me for their assistant store leader position, I got some training within the first month. Then the manager was in hospital for 2 weeks so basically everything was left to me paperwork wise.
When he returned I didn't get a thank you or anything for keeping that place afloat as best as I could(mind you I'd barely been trained and had barely been there a month). 
Later on, about 3 months before I finally just walked out, we had an asl from another store join the crew to help "fix" our mismanaged 40k shortage store. We got along at first, then the little things just kept piling up.
I kept being told I was going to get more asl training, I was still doing daily paperwork on the days the manager wasn't in(literally every weekend). Never got paid for the 6 minutes it took to drop the deposit off(that is illegal I  Alberta, still counts as work time). 
The night shift and evening shift were notoriously lazy. They've left food sitting for entire shifts and still sold it, disgusting.
The last month of working there, they faked 2 months of temp logs and still failed their steritech walkthrough.
Now the last straw after being told things like, "This has to be done every shift" then coming in and seeing it was never done on their shifts, was that I was screamed at within the first hour of my shift by the asl that was brought in for rumours she had heard and never came to me about. And hour into my shift, I walked out, best decision I've ever made.

Been working for the company for well over a year now, and it's been a consistently awful experience from day one, more or less. Management didn't want to interview me themselves so they had a random clerk sit me down in the back office and I had to guide them through how to interview me, explaining to them the types of things that are asked, why and went on the usual talk-up.

Management doesn't like to deal with people and will not communicate unless absolutely mandatory for them to do so, so you better make friends in the company who will tell you what's going on if you aren't working the same shift as management and able to get detail through forced contact. The company frequently makes baffling anti-employee decisions that actively hurt business and then blame store employees for not thriving under poor conditions.

Suppliers are frequently unable to provide basic supply, especially for cleaning, meaning stores are usually gross despite staff efforts.

Management hate changes and do not like initiative being taken to suggest improvements. Nearly verbatim words from one of my superiors once were: "Stop wasting everyone's time and get back to work." when offering ideas to help the store.

Benefits are non-existent if you aren't full-time, 40h/week and area management love cutting hours across the board, so you may be out of luck regardless of what days you work. There is no real opportunity for advancement and you will 100% be taken advantage of if you show initiative and express desire to want to be super reliable and a good little worker. Loyalty doesn't matter and isn't rewarded. It's a case of "We're a family" being a huge red flag as opposed to something to be excited for. 

Was not offered support in any way, shape or form when talking to management about s*xual harassment endured, either. It was actually just laughed at and made clear they either didn't believe me or didn't care.

If you are new in retail industry, take the job but only to gain entry experience. Don't expect that the pay will be good as they don't know how to keep the talented. Just think of why this company is always hiring...
At the store level, basically your day is around dealing with customers(depends on store location, certain stores have super difficult client groups), merchandising, and maintaining cleanliness in the store.
Some managers don't care/ can't handle negative employee performance because they don't like to pay layoff. Consequently, if you are hard-working, you will end up doing all the things alone. No matter what kind of people you will work with, don't forget your work ethic. If you work and get paid, please be a responsible staff( however, some incapable people just come here to pass the time and get paid).
Besides, some stores' locations are extremely bad. You may play a multi-role including security guard(they don't want to hire security, well..losing some products or paying a security who does nothing but just watches his phone all the time, honestly I don't know which one is better), housekeeper, merchandiser and cashier.
Moreover, field consultants want to do their reports nicely. So stores need to compete to meet different targets. 
Whether you can learn from this work is up to the people with whom you work, you learn everything at the till, don't count on the so-called computer training a lot. If you have the luck to work with people who are diligent and willing to teach, then you are lucky as they are few.
If you have a plan to start your own business, it's worth staying here a bit to learn the retail basics and how to deal with people of different categories. Otherwise, look for somewhere else for professional development and MENTAL health (bad location plus mean customers can easily ruin your day).

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Understaffed on purposes only hires as part time but makes you work fully time hour so you can’t qualify for benefits because you’re only hired on as part-time and part-time doesn’t get benefits then cutting hours in winter every year but hiring more people as parttime one raise a year under 40€ awful hours all over the place and till any time of night the 4-12 I was stuck on for 3 year that I didn’t like didn’t allow me to have a normal life as my sleep schedule was ruined but I could never get any other shift the morning was saved for the favourite people 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic manger just sees you as a number that can be replaced by a foreigner at any time and always expecting more out of you and adds more on your workload all the time without pay increase and gossipy coworkers 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Normally you would do 2 people on till and 1 in kitchen but because I was good at my job my boss would schedule 1 less person everytime i worked so i would have to make all the food for the store and help on till and do all the kitchen prep and stocking and the kitchen cleaning and close down after a day of running back and forth between cooking and till and then having upfront prep to do it was also my responsibility to make all the subs and sandwich’s all the desserts cup and the fruit trays and the vegetable tray while also having to make sure that the front gets cleaned up as well if the till person didn’t get to it I also had to help count tills and do shift change over every night for 15$ an hour

A typical day at work, come in/ clock in,once completed, see what food had to be made, if the garbage needed to be changed inside and out, check and see what needed to be stocked up e.g., Slurpee cups, coffee cup, straws, lids, cheese and salsa for the nachos. etc...

I learned that it can be a quick pace place where you are on your feet all day non-stop. I learned how to complete write offs when food is out dated,has been cooked for to long, or when other items are ready to be thrown out, how to do ordering when we are almost out of items.

Co-workers at this job is like any job sometimes you get amazing ones sometimes you don't. My co-workers some where so much fun to work with the others not so much, some you come close with because your working with them all the time and others you don't really get to know. The ones I got to know they were so much fun I don't remember a day that I wasn't laughing or smiling.

The hardest part of the job was getting to know how to do the ordering and the write offs. Its like any other job unless u know something then its going to take a little while to get to know the gadgets. Once you get to know everything if its a week, 2, 3 however long once you know its easy.

Most enjoyable part would have to be the customers, and employees. everyday when you walk in if your ever having a bad day at home your co-workers or customers will sure lighten up your day, with either a joke something that happened that day or just because you became close friends with them.

Spent 3 years working for this company and I finally decided to leave a couple weeks ago. Store Leaders are always miserable and cannot leave their home life away from work. They will take their bad day out on you with no regard. I tried pushing for a higher position in the company and was always pushed to the side with the subject never being brought up again. If you're actually feeling sick EVEN while in this pandemic, forget about them actually understanding. No matter how sick you are, they expect you to show up. Then they write you up for being sick even AFTER bringing in doctor's notes. Hours are most definitely not stable unless you suck up to the Store Leader. This place also has ridiculous "daily goals" for food sales. You can try your best to push the food on people, then get questioned about why there is so much going to waste everyday. On another note; breaks are very minimal. I used to smoke and would get into trouble for going for a 3 minute smoke break twice a shift (3 times if the store wasn't busy at the time), I wouldn't exceed 15 minutes in total when it's law for 8 hours to get a full 30. That's even after making sure my partner was ok for those times.
If you're looking to pay bills and get ahead, this is not the place for you. If you struggle with mental health, do not work here. You will be treated very poorly. "Team" is meaningless here. You're just a number to these people. Would not recommend working here for more than a year. Very stressful place to work at. 

-- as a 23 year-old young adult, I can say that working at 7-Eleven was one of the worst work experiences I've ever had since graduating high-school in 2008.

A typical day would start off as either me showing up early in the morning... or late at night (Between the hours 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.) to a messy store, the staff member (Normally alone) would be trying to clean up the store as best as possible... but given the nature of the night-shift... and working alone and over-tired, stuff that would normally take five minutes drags on to about half-an-hour or more and it might not get done at all.

The manager would show up and demand to know why those small thing haven't been finished, and the excuse "I didn't have enough time because it was busy tonight--" wasn't accepted. And I would receive a stern talking to and a Pink slip.

The management demanded near-perfection during inspections, and would only accept a rating of 90% or higher. anything below a 90 rating would result in a pink slip for a failed inspection.

The other staff members were also suffering from work related stress issues and many would just not want to show up and were either fired, or they quit on the spot.

Sadly... the most enjoyable part of working at 7-Eleven was "Quitting Time". And as I discovered after working at this one location for three years... the money itself wasn't even worth it in the long run.
