A typical day at work would be to greet our ladies, then discuss what to have for dinner. Once that is decided, we chat and color if that is needed. We will then go shopping, or just do the house work together. I would then prepare dinner, and socialize during our meal. One of our ladies would then prepare for bed, as she is a early riser. I will then assist with oral care, then tuck her into bed. The other lady likes to color and chat until she is ready for bed, she will be tucked in as well.
The hardest part of the job is when there are moods, I would allow time for calming. When calm, we would sit and talk about what is so upsetting. Also sometime working with family, can and has been difficult.
The most enjoyable part of the job is the laughing and goofing around. One of our individuals has a very dry but great sense of humor. The other enjoys watching and listening, and laughing at the antics. Also They helped to paint the bird houses and feeders, the satisfaction and how proud they were once completed was one of the best times.
The management is great, they are there but in the background. If they are needed, they are there immediately. Any concerns in the Programs are dealt with quickly.
I work alone in my program, I will see co-worker as shift is exchanged. We all get along very well, and help the program run smoothly.

I loved working for Aimhi! I started as casual, then became the temporary summer day support for two houses. I greatly enjoyed getting to know the clients and co workers and some managers. It was so fun to take individuals horseback riding, shopping, and to assist with life skills such as banking, cooking and preparing for bed. I had a great experience! 

However, once I returned to university after summer, the management changed and suddenly required me to be available 40 hours per week. When I first started, the management was supportive and understanding that I was a university student, so they were fine with 2-3 shifts per week. 

The new management was arrogant, intimidating and incredibly disrespectful. To make matters worse, the union representative appeared to have a friendship with management, so there was really nothing I could do. I was forced to resign, and I did. The company lost a hardworking staff over petty stuff. It’s unfortunate. I love my experience with the individuals, but have very little respect for management.

This is a very selfish place to work ie: managers / directors  only have their best interest in mind and will destroy ANYONE who get in the way of that, including staff and Clients! 

Your managers expect you to take their calls at anytime even when you're suppose to be on holidays, if you don't take their calls expect to get in trouble when you return from holidays. Mangers will lie and manipulate you to get you to do what they want; Managers are also the first people to throw you under the bus.
Managers / directors say its an inclusive place but are embarrassed of their clients and tell staff to keep them out of the office because they make to much noise and are messy...

The clients at Aimhi are beautiful and are the reason why I worked their for 5 years, I would still be there if management stopped playing their petty games!

I am a hardworking individual, I get along well with my co-workers, and supervisor. I am trustworthy, and a go getter. I work well alone, but can also work well with my co-workers. I start work by checking the communication log, say hello to my clients, I have learned that not everyone is alike, in the things that they do, the hardest part of my job is getting the clients I work with to calm down when they are overly anxious. the most enjoyable part of my job is just watching my clients be so happy over the least little thing.

Very rewarding job if you like to support others. But it all depends on who are your colleagues and manager. If you have a lazy colleague, your shift is miserable. Some staff won’t come on time, sleep on client’s bed, always talking on the phone, and they get mad if someone report it.   Manager doesn’t deal with the issues. Manager makes issues worth. 

Some co-workers were great.some not.
Things we were expected to do to keep job...years later weren't expected..having a car or license...speaking english.etc
Trusted a few managers rest I didnt

The benefits are very good and that's all

Poor management,  procedures and policies not followed

Stressful and unprofessional,  a lot of hypocrisy from management

Management doesn't care about the employees and definitely doesn't care about the supported individuals. They make impactful decisions without a thought or care to who they affect and will come down on you for standing up to them. Very unbecoming of a supposedly not-for-profit agency funded by taxpayer dollars.

New workers are targets for harassment and gaslighting Management and union do nothing to support anyone who brings up concerns. New Managers are poorly trained. and for the most part not qualified.
