Most of the reviews have been done by part-time staff, co-op students or contractors, these people would not have had a lot of interaction with management, nor did they work there fulltime.

It's a top-down kind of management. They expect a lot for what they pay with the promise of more but don't even wish you a Merry Christmas. Most of the management team don't get along and that makes it difficult to go to work, always knowing that there's going to be backstabbing. It's an all about me kind of place.

I'm enjoying my new position so much more.

The facility is great, the vision is also great, so who knows maybe one day it will get better. If you enjoy working long hours for little pay this is your place. It will at least give you a great company name on your resume.

The new CEO shows promise but he's blindly led by people who are not skilled. 

I enjoyed many of the staff although there was interdepartmental finger pointing that was tiresome at times, I guess that happens everywhere.

I learned a lot there that will serve me well, they have a nice inclusive culture so you get to work and interact with a wide variety of people.

I had a very mixed-bag experience working at Abilities Centre Durham. On one hand, everyone was kind to me at the outset, and they explained at great depth my main tasks, and tried to create a friendly office atmosphere. On the other, though -- as other reviewers have said -- the management didn't really listen to the front-line workers, they made very little effort to train folks, they piled too many tasks on too few people, and they ended my contract prematurely! The way I was treated by this organization at the end really hurt, and I wouldn't recommend to anyone that they take a job here.

I loved working at Abilities Centre. I was an employee for several years. The atmosphere and innovation that goes on here is incredible. It is difficult to move up and the wage/ benefits situation needs to needs re accessed. Therefore the front line staff retention rate is quite low unfortunately.If you have the financial means to support yourself in another way, I cannot recommend working for this organization more! Amazing management, and passionate dedicated staff!

They try to make it look like they are about inclusion however they are not really inclusive. They are a top down style leadership! The top never associates with frontline staff or the members! They have no idea how the members feel! The frontline staff are the heart and soul of the centre! The leadership run over staff and all they care about is getting that gov’t funding. There’s always a high staff turnover! They don’t pay for your training and use the non profit as their excuse not to pay you.

A typical day was enjoyable. I learned a lot about people and human communication. the management was hardworking and helpful. my co workers were helpful and motivated me. Hardest part of the job was learning the computer system they had in place. the most enjoyable part of the job was helping someone and seeing it meant something to them, if it was setting up a workout plan for them or doing an activity.

Work days are set by you with your manager and the management is quite understanding and supportive of growth.
The department I was in had a good workplace culture, work life balance and was very supportive of everyone.
The hardest part of the job would be commuting to various locations if needed 
Working with the team and having a work family to support you 

Poorly run by management. The top priority is making money from the ASAD program which has no consideration for individuals with disabilities. No consideration for staff that worked hard for them during vacancies and difficult times. They are so far away from the original mission and vision of the centre that was supposed to have a focus of providing services for people in the community with disabilities.

The AC was a huge part or my life for 4 yrs..what a positive happy, fulfilling place to work. There is different departments and everyone works as a team. I was in the maintenance dept and couldnt have asked for a better down to earth boss and the team under me we're amazing
 I would highly recommend the Abilities Centre to anyone. Also the CEO and Hr dept are also caring, down to earth and have an open door policy

Typically I would be just cleaning the facility, because at my position there wasn't to much to be done, which was the only problem, however it is an incredible facility. It taught me about working with purpose and the importance of the people you are around, reminding me to treat others how I would want to be treated.

The Ability centre is a good place for those who are looking to be around a sports and workout culture. 

While leadership depends on giving little training, they have the right foundational tools to become a great workspace
