Armtec

Armtec was a very face paced environment and I enjoyed working there tremendously. As Plant Coordinator for Prairie Region ( which consisted of four Plants ) I had to ensure that all the Bills of Materials or (BOM's) which I received from the Engineering and Drafting Department were correct with the Item we were Producing, therefore once I received the Drawings, I would read them and calculate Raw Materials that had to be entered eg. Strand, Rebar, Concrete etc. were precise and accurate. This was very important as I affected all Raw Materials from our Main Inventory Data Base of which showed Gains/Losses all year round ensuring that my attention to detail was accurate and very precise. I was also a huge advocate for our Health & Safety Procedures - ensuring that they were followed on a daily basis whether it be Plant Employees' or Visitors to our Facility. I found being a part of this gave me great satisfaction as Health & Safety was our main priority above all else - even Productivity. Working for this Company, I have attained so much knowledge in so many areas - it was a wonderful experience and it certainly opened my eyes to so many different aspects of how our Steel and Concrete Structures that we drive everyday and take for granted now works and how they are Created. If given the chance again to seek work in this area, I would definitely take it. However, I am a Professional with a Corporate back ground in Finance, Accounting and Office Administration. I firmly believe that having such a versatile work experience - I could handle any type of job with the utmost professionalism and confidentiality.

Like someone else reviewed there's alot of staff turnover especially on drainage as its seasonal. I've been on production for 5 years and it's a good job. I've seen many employees come and go. Many would like to stay but unfortunately with the weather it's hard to say exactly how long the layoffs will be usaully. If you like seasonal work it's great. If you've been working for a while you may possibly not get laid off anymore and work year round. Production jobs in Québec start at 43k a year currently. Salaries seem a little lower in other provinces but the tax rates are lower too so it compensates. The company was bought out by Brookfield and is going through some restructuring and I expect it when done to be a great company once again. Lots of investment has been done in 2016. They are promising shorter or no more layoffs for employees after restructure.

It was good experience to work with armtec. There were lot of new things to learn. My boss (Lead Technician) was very cooperative and relied on me while doing different jobs. My coworkers were very nice guys and they were always to welcome new employees. The overall management was good, but due to current recession scenario in the province they planned to hire people for the time being to complete particular job. After completion of particular work they fired the new employees within their probationary period. This was the dark side of the management. I enjoyed to learn about new things and machinery.I liked to work in armtec because they expand lot of budget for the safety of employees and machines.

Armtec takes care of their staff very well.
They pay well to employees with good qualification.

Honestly speaking there was no stress working at this organization.
All the staff and upper management guys treat you like as a part of family

Friendly and inclusive.
Employees concerns and suggestions are heard.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
From April to November it's quite busy so you might need to do overtime.
The overtime is compensated in form of extra leave hours added to your vacation balance.

Although i worked for Armtec during a transitional period, it offers decent wages however the trade off comes in the management aspect with little work life balance in a position above supervisor.  The guys on the floor are realistic and down to earth, and have a team comradery that is excellent.  However, upper management had issues as there is a disconnect between what is possible on paper and what is actually do-able.  I don't think this issue is isolated to just Armtec as a business, however, management and there meetings are not able to see the forest for the trees at the best of time.
Alot of old faces have changed and in with the "new" and hope that armtec is able to survive the impact on its changing business.

	Purchasing assessment and involvement with vendors to ensure all parts manufactured arrive within a timely manner.
	Key member of organization and shipping within the Plant. Held daily production meetings.
	Contributed to the training of new employees on SAP Program
	Provided cost-effective solutions for logistics, production and yard systems.
	Held monthly safety meetings, completed job Hazards, and Risk Assessments Reports
	Co-ordinated quarterly Inventory counts

Little to no overtime. Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 4:30.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Constant bullying by my manager; lack of training; lots of finger-pointing; no team work; no chance for advancement; no opportunities to improve or change policies and procedures; upper-management was very much the "old boys' club".

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. Even after four years I never felt I was doing my job correctly. Management seemed more interested in "writing up" employees rather than training and explaining processes.

Very little pay, over-worked, company is very far apart. Lots of miscommunication and backstabbing

Stressful, bunch of BS stuff needing done, expecting to be able to run 2 lines with 1 operator, 1 supervisor and 1 floor worker 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long and stressful. Feels like an eternity when doing 1 shift

A typical day at work is busy but rewarding, with lots of customer interaction, problem solving, and teamwork. I’ve learned to be more confident, organized, and better at handling different situations as they come up. Management is supportive and approachable, and the workplace culture is friendly and team-oriented. The hardest part of the job is juggling multiple priorities at once, especially on busy days. The best part is the people I work with and the relationships built with customers and coworkers.

Team building is always the goal; safe & friendly working environment! People is the most valuable resource at this company!

Like at any other place; when machines don't work properly.
