Too many residents per HCA. Overly worked and feeling “unsafe” when left with numerous residents with high levels of needs and not enough workers. Often short staffed which leads to more pressure and level of quality of care declines further. Chances of injury to worker go up and quality of care drastically  goes down. Plenty of positions up for grabs. 

Night shifts; Each floor is devided (by a hallway) in 2 separate communities. Each community accommodates 16 residents (32 residents total!). Most residents have sensors due to them being high fall risk. Some floors there is only 1 HCA. You are running between the 2 communities managing 32 residents. It takes a SINGLE (yes, a single!) high fall risk resident to have a restless night in order for you to run that much more faster. You add more high fall restless patients to your night plus aggression, you’re in a place of feeling “overwhelmed”. Sadly, there may be a palliative resident in the mix. There is an unrealistic expectation of doing “hourly” checks. 

In reality, there is one float (or is there? She is pulled from her own floor to help others). That float helps with changes and cover breaks for 2 HCAs (and away for her own). So you are essentially left on your own on an extremely busy floor. This is the case for 2 out of the 3 floors. The much needed SINGLE  1 hour break you once received has now been reduced due to the floor(s) being too busy. This is the worst solution to the problem. Nurses are mostly “too busy” to help. 
 
Superiors; I challenge you to work each floor (with supervision) for a week (to get a proper grasp of this reality) and make a decision based on your experience as to how many workers are needed per floor. 

There should NEVER be a single person for the ENTIRE floor at ANY given time. This is highly UNSAFE for your works, UNFAIR to your residents. Please support your staff and help rectify this problem.

Lastly, I ask Baptist Housing to send out an anonymous questionnaire to all your employees to get an overall feel of the issues at hand. Lots of repeated comments made by staff that suggest the above is not an isolated problem.

Workplace culture was amazing, but the management was apathetic and lacked care in promoting the culture. Working and serving seniors is an amazing experience, and they are so thankful and appreciative; if only the management was the same! 

False promises, puts on the facade they care and are working on changes when they aren't, told to ignore illegal and unethical workplace environments (numerous cases). Very apt to give you extra hours as needed, but only when they absolutely need you as the last resort. Was told by management numerous times, as well as other employees were told that "they just need a body". It led to unhealthy work environments as the culture enthusiasm dropped from all the employees, and half no longer cared. 

The hardest part about the job is if you care and want to partake in the growth of potentially an amazing organization, but then have to suppress that and bite the bullet. The rest of the employees still there enjoy working with seniors, but did not appreciate the environment and were either looking for other work or just putting up with it as they had no fear of being fired and it paid the bills. 

Numerous employees were promoted, or retained their management status without repercussions, warning, or official write-ups when they violated company policies and/or harassed other employees. This statement alone signifies the deterioration of the culture.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Baptist Housing has a good team. It has a very positive vibe. And the people live in the residences really enjoy living here. Teams solve problems together, and it has many fun events all year round. From a faith heritage, it incorporates all the sensible values that makes a good company. People here are down to earth and counting on each other. Overall, this is a good company!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
From a service branch of the organization. There are some daily issues arriving from its equipment and environment. I would work together with teammates and supervisors to get the issues resolved on time, and make it something that will last. Supervisors knows about the situations better than me, so I would work alongside to have a sensible service or product or outcome.

I really enjoy working with Baptist Housing! I find that there is a strong sense of team and collaboration involved, which holds me accountable to show up, work hard, and support my Teammates. 

Coming from a different industry prior to this, I have found that there is a night & day difference in positivity in my workplace. At Baptist Housing, everyone seems to enjoy what they do and people are always smiling. This may sound like such a simple thing, but when you are surrounded by people who are smiling more often than not, it does wonders to my personal mood and impacts how I show up with my family after a hard days work. I think the fact that we also know that our workplace is someone else's home is very humbling and is a constant reminder to be grateful and happy for the work we get to do. 

The Residents are also such a joy! They are full of jokes, smiles, and genuinely appreciate the work we do every day for them. It is truly a very rewarding environment. 

Overall, very pleased with this organization and my career.

I volunteered as a mental assistant at Baptist Housing, in Kelowna, BC, Canada. 

It was a 4 months long experience with elderly people who were mostly left alone at that place. Most of them were suffering from mental illnesses and some suffered from physical problems. 
I mostly worked at mental health department. We created a warm, respectful atmosphere to listen to them and schedule activities to enhance their mental skills. We mostly worked for people who suffered from Alzheimer's disease and memory disorders. As well as depressed people who felt like they were left alone to die!

I really enjoyed working there and I felt satisfied helping people to follow a different lifestyle and alter their philosophy of life.

I quit the job because I had a plan to move to Toronto and start my bachelor in psychology.

Usually, 11-7 shift, I take the radio, report to my floors and receives report to evening nurses. I work two floors with one care aide per floor. Answers call from care aide staff when needed to assess a resident with some health issues. Administer prescribed medications. Although I experienced so many challenges especially working in a senior facility as a licensed practical nurse the job is very rewarding. The staff are nice, respectful and very professional with their jobs. For example when it's time to work and observes required break times. The management is good. Managers are approachable. The hardest part of my job is the kind of shift that I work . I work nights and I have to take care of my children at home. Otherwise, I love my job and I love what I do.

I would describe my experience as a team member with Baptist Housing thus far to be amazing. The team always works on an interprofessional level; discussions are very collaborative to ensure that our residents receive the best care they can get. The team is very compassionate, empathetic, hard working, fun and loving. It has that "family" vibe. I remember my first day feeling homey and accepted.  

The only thing that I could say could be better is with the amount of work we do on a normal day, a higher pay I think is necessary. Especially in the middle of this pandemic. We deserve that Hazard Pay! We all do... 

As well as better benefits, Blue Cross is not very good...

But other than pay and benefits, I highly recommend working for a Baptist Housing site.

A scheduler's day is often dynamic, blending administrative tasks, coordination, and communication. This role offers the opportunity to develop valuable skills and gain significant knowledge applicable to various areas. While the job can be challenging, particularly when managing scheduling conflicts and last-minute changes, it demands quick thinking and effective problem-solving. The most enjoyable aspect of being a scheduler varies for each individual, but successfully coordinating schedules and ensuring smooth operations can be incredibly satisfying.

I have been with Baptist Housing for 9 years. Working as a Recreation Assistant. With schooling I was promoted to Recreation Coordinator. I have loved working with Baptist Housing. They are really working hard to be the best employer out there within their means. I think of them as my second family. The team is always looking out for each other and very helpful. There are education opportunities frequently and recognition events throughout the year. Everyone understands they are here for the same reason and do their best to support each other and their residents. The recreation team is phenomenal and I couldn't ask for a better team to work with.

senior leadership hold no value and contributed to a poor culture. Favours the problematic people who suck up, and punish the people trying to make a positive change.

Targeting staff that don’t align with their religious values.

Stressful and cliquey.  Poor senior leadership contribute to a resentful staff

Fast paced, minimal staff due to poor retention. Extra work expectations with no benefit due to staff that don’t pull their weight
