Does the thought of pulling things like transmissions and entire subframes while laying outside in the snow while the heated shop sits empty excite you? Perhaps you'd enjoy being monitored on camera constantly as you work? Or maybe you like being micromanaged to death by someone who might only have the loosest grasp on what's involved in what you're removing?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, boy you're in for a treat.

Workplace culture was toxic, sales staff often got needlessly rude and condescending if you happened to tread over one of their often unrealistic time frames or accidentally broke something.

Opportunities for advancement are nonexistent as it's a family business.

Shop meetings which involved singling out person weren't uncommon and probably happened 3-4 times in the year and a half I was there.

A lot of the shop tools and equipment are in constant and varying states of disrepair, I quickly discovered if money out =/= immediate money in, your equipment request was likely to be ignored. ie. I requested a simple weedwhacker strap sometime mid summer, as it's gas powered, and relatively heavy. As of my last day it had never been ordered.

On a related note safety is also a low priority, there have been times where we've been without earplugs for days at a time. I'm not sure if there's a proper lifting strap in the building, everything is done with truck tailgate cables.

Easily the worst part of the job was dealing with the sales staff. There is a huge disconnect between what happens in the front office and what happens in the shop. Nothing goes 100% smoothly 100% of the time, things rust, things break, with the variety of vehicles in the yard sometimes your guy is simply just not gonna be familiar with what he's working on. The unrealistic expectations and constant micromanagement create immense pressure.
