I only lasted there several months. I was left alone not really knowing what to do. There was several emergencys where I needed to contact a supervisor. I contacted both my area as well as head office supervisor and no one ever called me back. I was asked if I could work at a different location and said I could but only under certain Circumstances. So I did not make plans for that weekend. They never got back to me to let me know if I was working. I would do exactly what I was told to do then the next morning they would complain about my work. I have been verbally attacked by Costco employees as well as customers. But I can't do anything about it because the supervisor is never there. Other employees used me untill they got what they wanted. I handed in my letter and they still wanted me to work the long holiday weekends. I also did not find it fair that the one full time employee made commotion. When everyone was gone on holidays except for me, the full time employee got all my commission I mad when I had a 7,000 day which is extremely unfair since i was the one who worked.

they don't let you grow within the company.  They put commissions on you that they know you can't meet.  They divide the commissions according to what you work, if you are part-time but you work as if you were full-time due to the high work that sometimes there is only in one day, they do not care and the commissions are lower for part-time  .  They do not give you benefits and they withhold your vacation money, when you request them they pay it a month later because they always have excuses. you are each one hour sending reports through a tablet and photos because the boss does not live or never is close. If you have to stay 30 more minutes because the job asks for it.  They don't pay you overtime, if you arrive 10 minutes before and you do clock in to start working at once, they don't pay you a minute before or a minute after

This job was was easy but often incredibly boring due to a lack of work to do. Besides stocking the display in the morning and doing inventory, you're more often than not wondering if you should have brought a book to read in order to occupy yourself. Of course you weren't allowed, so you had to find ways to look busy. 

It's funny, because in the entire time I worked here (over a year), I didn't meet my manager until after I'd left. I worked the weekends and only dealt with my co-worker who worked weekdays. I'd text my manager once in a blue moon but that was it. 

The job included things like helping customers pick flowers or giving information, taking special orders, trimming flower stems, and changing water in the display. It was simple, easy, and oriented towards someone who was very self-directed--except holidays, you work alone.

The experience working as a merchandiser was decent until they started literally exploiting me.
There’s a poor management of the planning, so sometimes they could let you know a day before around 6p.m that they’re expecting you to be there the next day at 7 a.m. despite not even being scheduled that day. They also have no consideration for your situations & could push a student (in my case) to his limit, making him work hours & hours during exam weeks. Sometimes even, expecting you to literally work hours before passing that exam just so you could help them achieve their goals, while compromising yours. I definitely don’t recommend this job at all if you’re a student or someone just trying to have a simple job with  maybe, some growth opportunities.

some holidays the deliveries were a bit overwhelming and they did not give advanced notice on some of them

As i worked alone i cannot really address this question

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
for my day it involved getting a shipment of  up to two full skids of cut flowers and plants and.  and setting them in the  planogram   our store location never shared an actual planogram just the previous empoyee showing me.   it had to be changed at times due to different holidays and deliveries but it was a simple plan to follow and change as needed

Bloomstar handles the cut floral displays in Costco Canada warehouses. There was very little training; most of what I learned was from Google. Your supervisor is unlikely to be on-site with you, so you have a lot of freedom in the structure of your day. However, some employees abuse this freedom and do not do an adequate job, or even go MIA during their shifts. Communication from head office is the absolute bare minimum and most merchandisers are on their own; however they are very flexible and accommodating. All in all, it's a fun job and a good way to get your foot in the door of floral work, but low pay and lack of appreciation will leave you wanting to move on.

This job was relatively easy, at times it was repetitive and boring. 
Every day you would restock the display. Every couple days you would change the water and food in the flower buckets and rework the broken flowers. 

Most the time you were standing around trying to find something to do unless it was the busy season, ie; Valentines, Christmas, Mothers Day, Thanksgiving or Wedding season. During those times you were running back and forth from the cooler to the displays. You were usually so busy you didn't have time to have a lunch or take a break. 

We were promised commission if we reached a certain goal of flowers sold, only the goal was based on sales of last year, the year they introduced the commission, sales had dropped so it was never reached.

I love flowers and working in a flower distribution company was fun.  It was a dynamic environment.  I love to drive and I enjoyed the time driving to different places such as Ottawa, Sherbrook, Quebec -different places in Montreal.  It was not easy driving on the winter time. However, I enjoyed visiting places such Trois RIvieres. Quebec city and Chicoutimi. As a supervisor, it was a challenge and motivated position. I enjoyed helping the employees to understand the importance of the quality of the flowers and the client's satisfaction.

The best part was getting to work alone most of the time, and getting to smell flowers all day. 
Management (and my supervisor) were unreasonable, rude, and condescending. Could not call in sick without notice! (and needed a doctor's note every time!) There were only two of us at my location to split the week, so it was impossible to get any coverage when I was sick or had an appointment or something. Shifts were over 9hrs long, and there was no vacation time or any chance for promotion. They paid minimum wage, no overtime. 

I worked for a few weeks before getting let go saying that they had decided to cut back giving help to the department I was in which meant getting rid of new hires. The people who were there for longer were very friendly and nice and they do seem to genuinely care for each other as parties were held for birthdays. 

My work wasn't very clear on what I should be doing as some parts I felt were taken over by other colleagues. I had tried to get better in other aspects to help because of this.
