What is the best part of working at the company?
You get to pick through the donations from time to time.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very stressful environment. A lot of bullying by Management as well as employees. It's worse if you let them know you NEED the job. Do NOT recommend.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Long days 8am to 6:30pm with an unpaid 2hr lunch. Low pay, forced to participate in charity events and fundraisers, unpaid on your time off.  Other staff keep to themselves for good reason, but makes for a very unhappy workplace.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive early in all types of weather. Find your vehicle , clean off in winter. Do circle check, takes 20 mins. Get roster for the day, plan your trip and leave yard by 8 am or earlier depending on your pickup time and where it is. Keep in mind you don't start getting paid until 8am but your first pickup might be at 8:30 25minutes away. A lot of lifting and carrying, taking abuse from customers and other members of the public. The only upside are the clients as they are kind and very grateful for the service. The only reason I stayed at it for so many years.

I think, as with all Youth development jobs, Working with children and helping them to advance in life is it's own development. The staff whom I worked with was top notch. If you needed help moving a ton of boxes and asked for help, they were cheerful enough to make a contest out of which one of them could move the most amount. 
However the management was a little harsh. It was a constant for not fully training employees on the finer aspects of things like filling out a report of the day, then marking down such employee for not doing the form correctly. 

It's been years since I've worked there, and I have heard that it's changed, if so then I see no reason for any cons for this job. Aside form it being non-profit. Don't really expect to have a large disposable income, if any unless you're higher management.

Working at the boys and girls club was a nightmare. All people not even qualified to work with children, all staff having a high school clique attitude towards other staff even management, and most common sense in situations are handled poorly. The children complained daily, the staff complained and wanted to quit daily... Worst establishment ever. Really hoping that BGC is going under and a new establishment can take place with better policies and better opportunities for the community!

BGC has some great services they provide such as the clubs, counselling but the employment division is horrible and managed very poorly. Your voice will never be heard, management will never take responsibility for anything and staff are always blamed when something goes wrong. Management does not believe in loyalty and commitment and make you apply for positions that you are already doing. It's chaos.... And a toxic environment to work in unless they bring in a new management team.... BEWARE

They didn’t train me properly and just threw me in to the deep end with all the kids

It was fantastic but overwhelming

Be at the club at 7:30am done for the day at 4:30

The staff and kids and the busses are in good working condition

Bad drivers and bad road conditions

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Drive the kids to special events

BGCL was a very collaborative place to work and team work was valued. I worked as an inclusion counsellor and the management and coordinators were always ready to help and offer feedback when an incident would happen. Everyone was accepting of all cultures, religions and more. 

Most of the time the days there were really enjoyable because you get to play with the kids. Throughout time you develop a nice relationship with kids and their parents. The hardest part of the job is that some kids don't listen to you sometimes. Overall, the boys and girls club is a nice job to work in.

The best part of the job is being able to bind with the children. Becoming a role model, for them to look up too. I usually helped supervise the children as they come in. Afterwards, prepare the breakfast for them and setting up for the next activity. and packing the lunches for the afternoon field trip. All while still playing and entertaining the children.

Management is awful here, the wage is minimum at 11.80,  there is only one adult to 16 or more children. They were very desperate to hire yet can't seem to keep people on. I will never work for them again or recommend them.
