Calgary-Telus-Convention-Centre

Working at the Calgary Telus Convention Centre has been a challenging experience. In my time there, I felt leadership lacked transparency and accountability, which contributed to a culture of mistrust. Employee concerns were often dismissed, and I feel that many employees strived to leave. 

I also feel there were inconsistencies in workplace flexibility. While certain roles benefited from work-from-home options, others faced increasing restrictions, with management tightening remote work policies over time. This uneven approach led to some of my and others' frustrations. It's akin to anivory tower wher those at the top get the most benefits and can do the least work. 

Additionally, I feel turnover was noticeably high. Positions seemed frequently vacant, and conversations with industry professionals suggested that the CTCC’s poor reputation contributed to ongoing staffing challenges.  

HR was quite suspicious and would monitor employees' social media and monitor when employees associate with other members in the industry. 

Your initial first month and a half may feel promising—colleagues are friendly, and the workplace seems professional. But as time passes, you may realize it's only in appearances.  

I think most employees put on a facade that everything is fine, but the more you learn about the workplace, the more you start to recognize the struggles and hardships people quietly endure under leadership. I feel like there's a lack of speaking out in this culture do to the threat leadership poses to job security.  The reality beneath the surface is far more troubling than it initially appears. 

If you are considering a position here, I strongly recommend researching thoroughly and speaking with both current and former employees to gain a well-rounded perspective before making a decision.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
While it supports growth, the infrastructure of the organization promotes a cut throat toxic environment that encourages a type of competition that is based on winners and losers.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The people on the ground level for the most part were amazing, the culture is the typical  corporate model. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Steady most days, but can come to a grinding halt during slow periods

There was no such thing as a typical day at work - it may involve everything from pushing a helicopter up a ramp to a buffalo in the same room the next day.  There was a wide variety of tasks to do throughout the day, so boredom was not an issue, and the staff worked together as a team to help everybody look good.  Thank you letters from clients were the norm.

Do not work here - Management is very immature, they spend hours gossiping and talking about their cats and dogs. They have no sense of responsibility and believe in nepotism. I was most treated and made to feel I am not worth the job or their company . I had to go to therapy to over come this feeling . It’s a red flag ! DO NOT APPLY HERE !!!!!! 

On a usual work day you meet with lots of people that come from different places. Most that own a company or fly in from another country to attend a work related conference. Nearly everyone shares their experience with you, very friendly interactive conversation with one another. Very loving, clean and respected environment.

the compensation and benefit is above the average, but you can get laid off suddenly with no explanation. they have diverse working environments, but not enough consideration of work-life balance.
