First things first,

The advertised shift is 8 hours, but, it is 9 hours minimum as it was 8a-5p as a field technician. You normally accrue about 8 hours of overtime on average every 2 weeks with some days going over 11-12 hours being normal. Expect to travel to places like Ottawa, out east, west, or even the USA for short to long periods of time. Their probation period is longer than usual as well from the normal 3 months, they do 6 months.

The other stuff,

Typical days involve a lot of driving with your average travel time roughly 1.5 hours going as far as 3-4 hours. You will have to troubleshoot, replace, or fix computer-type hardware or camera-related systems. You are also responsible for vehicle inventory and checks before you head out, but, there is normally other technicians available to provide assistance if you'll be sent on your own and you're new.

Often on a regular day, you will be blind-sided with tasks outside the normal planning process that will extend your work day or even show your lack of preparedness to clients and it'll be up to you to smooth it out.

The training process is fairly informal, you'll mostly be doing on the job training with a senior technician who will skip meals and downtime in favour of getting the jobs done and getting home, while simultaneously getting rewarded with work thrown on top since an extra hour of work is being done.

Favoritism is very normal as this is a smaller company and it becomes obvious very early on who management prefers over others. Concerns especially will be heard better by favoured employees. 

You will almost never have a chance to see or talk to your coworkers outside of the first hour of the day and with whom you're training with, so, you will regularly feel like an outsider to the office staff.

The best part of this job is that time flies, regardless of how long it goes. Unfortunately, you will become very aware how little time you have during the week after a regular work week.

The company is not in the business to excel employees; This is not a career option, do not waste your time. There is always high turn over within this company. If your attempting to make a mark in security, don't worry, Caliber will be hiring very shortly. Missing activities of crime while operating over 100 cameras will warrant immediate dismissal within your probation. 

Favoritism trumps seniority, don't even bother asking for the position or gunning a management position. They are very vocal on their connections with executives within the company and I've never seen an operator in this position. Majority of time, management are literally breathing down your neck, monitoring your station and conversations, recording your every action to warrant your dismissal. These are individuals who are not here to excel your career, rather to excel the performance of the company.  

The job itself demands a lot from you, long hours, with little family and social interactions. Majority of your holidays will be committed to work while you are watching Caliber Communication's C.E.O. dwelling and exotic vehicle(yes, you will be monitoring your boss' house and 'friends' of the company-And it will be prioritized over all other clients). Majority of your time will be committed to 12 hour night shifts and your work schedule will include most, if not all, weekends.

The best part of the job is when there are activities of crime. Your adrenaline is high and the blood is pumping. Witnessing, reporting, and actively seeking and identifying is a thrill and a real excitement within the room. Moments like those were memorable. But, it's short-lived, it is not a company that values it's employees. 

The connections you make while working is pleasant and makes the shift shorter and sometimes longer. it's a hit or miss with your colleagues. Most of the time I had enjoyed the company of my colleagues. 


This is one of the best companies I've worked for; with a fun and responsive management team. It is also one of the fastest growing companies in Canada and as such the pace is very high.

We have a strong service team with our senior techs having stayed with us nearly 4 years now. We've also had to lose a few who either knew it all already (dangerous to themselves and others), didn't work well with others or just didn't work!

A service technician position is a tough physical position - working outdoors all year round and sometimes some very long days. All overtime is paid though and we are constantly looking to improve efficiencies and to give them all the support possible. Still - not a job for snowflakes!





This is one of the absolute worst companies I've ever worked for, they under pay you and undercut your pay cheque every chance they get. There is a ridiculous amount of driving so be prepared to be on the road long hours, manager complains about pit stops and other arbitrary topics. Be prepared to be work long hours with little compensation for over time. They also expect you to climb and work on over 200 foot cranes and service them so be prepared to climb. They also send you to the most remote locations for installs and maintenance with very limited information and expect you to complete jobs that sometimes take up the whole in an hour or two. AVOID this company and save your energy for another more respectable workplace.

Ive been with the company for a while and have really enjoyed my time. The owners are approachable with questions or suggestions, the managers are open to talking about things in a fair manner and the supervisors care about you as a person, not just as an employee. 
My coworkers are fun and the atmosphere is usually pretty energetic. 
The hours can be kind of long, but only having to work 12 days a month and still making decent money is great!
Theres always extra shifts if I want them, and they are really growing, so theres a chance to move up too. 
Their new incentive program is also a really nice bump too. Add in the gym, and I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to be here. 

I have been with the company for 2 years now and have nothing but good things to say about the company and job.  I come to work and am treated fairly and with respect.  I look forward to each shift as I find the job very exciting. My coworkers and management team are awesome people who always keep us energized and entertained.  The company has a great on call bonus and quarterly incentive program.  I feel honored to work for such a great company, especially during covid.  Don't trust the other reviews on here from previous staff that failed to perform.  You get back what you put in.

It’s a good place to work until you realize you get treated a certain way by supervisors/managers based on how much they like you. Also lovely to note that they fired half the monitoring department during covid-19, only to be posting job offers for monitoring operators a few months later. How rich. Job security is pretty low (clearly) but the pay and benefits and co-workers was the the best part of the job.

Great place to work in a relaxed and fun environment. Chain of command needs some work, as there were hierarchy issues when working, and things weren’t passed on properly. However, it is a fairly new business and one I believe people should want to grow with as they’ll give you opportunities for growth with fair pay and raises. If you don’t mind staring at a computer screen for 12 hours a day/night this is the job for you. Requires no physical labour, but is a true test of your attention span. 

All said and done, Caliber Communications is a great place to work and grow your skillset within the telecommunications/security monitoring field. The team tends to have a relaxed, but efficient mindset, with a lot being accomplished day to day. Drama can occasionally arise between departments, but is generally resolved quickly and effectively. Be warned that pay raises will likely not align with the increased cost of living year over year.

Your typical shift at caliber revolves around clearing hundreds if not thousands of alarms a night. 

Expect to stay 15-20 minutes late as well, since they'd like you to acknowledge anything before the end of shift. 

During this 20 minute time, management will sit there and complain the operators are not going fast enough, and clearly don't want to go home. All while stating things such as "I'd like to get home on time please guys" and not assisting in clearing up the excess even though they have the ability.
