Canadian Wildlife Federation

For me, a typical day on the job consisted of field data collection and eventually laboratory work. Communication with and support of all kinds between team leads and coworkers. The work culture is excellent and I always felt included and well supported by peers and management. 

I learned a lot about ecology, data collection, daily task management, communication, sustainability, the environment and its protection in Canada as well as being exposed to a lot of different views from different people in Ontario. I learned to communicate well with people in order to join opposing views and get people understanding each other a little bit more.  I think this was invaluable skills to have developed and learned. 

I have a high respect for CWF and my time spent there. 

CWF has a fabulous group of employees all working for the betterment of the environment and wildlife. Their education department is small but does an unbelievable job of working with schools and the general public.

The actual running of the program was fun and flexible. The managers seemed to lack overall vision for the youth program, and often have conflicting views with each other. The communication with head office could also use work (like waiting months for supplies, etc). Relying on grant money to fund salaries also made the position unpredictable and stressful. 

Working at head office, I manage a team of scientists.  The stress that I deal with on a daily basis is terrible.  I can't get reports from senior management, I am left of my own.  Salaries which have been budgeted for cannot be approved and staff are leaving.  My program will soon collapse and I have no evidence that the organization even cares.

CWF is passionate about protecting wildlife, and it’s a common goal shared by all staff. There are several staff functions and social functions, the culture is great. They actively hear the needs of staff and strive to make positive changes. 

The work culture is excellent. A very supportive environment and the work you do is meaningful and impactful. A good spot early in career. Very open to hiring new graduates. Very flexible with with hours and time off. Remote work for employees outside of the national capital region. Benefits are excellent as well.

Canadian Wildlife Federation is a registered charity with a very large Raiser's Edge database. The charity is a little different from most in that it has a large base of smaller donors and uses monthly premium mailings to maintain budget targets.

Great organisation that is dedicated to keeping Canada's wild spaces wild. Work to solve the problem! A typical day of work was working at Voyager Provincial Park. Management was always courteous with pay errors and inconsistencies.

we all felt like family, everyone was more than willing to help one another, had summer barbeques, Christmas parties, great place to work. Management was just like everyone else.
