Centra Industries

I started at Centra as a 12 hour night shift deburrer. Night shift is hard on the body but I was glad to fine tune my knowledge and work largely independently. Overtime was also great as we could book it ourselves so it was basically work as much as you want as long as you want (i.e 4 hours or 12, your choice). Benefits were also generous with an automatic health spending account for when you finished your allotment you could draw from it which also carried over.

What became a concern was how almost no one stayed here long term, the entire HR team, department manager, new general manager (one wasn't there when I got hired), department team leaders all quit for other jobs while I was here though it had little impact on me on night shift.

After several months, night shift was really getting to me so I requested and was accepted to day shift. Everything was revealed as to why employees in all sorts of roles were quitting constantly. Upper Management provides no support and no one takes responsibility so nothing changes or improves. One inspector for a part will say its no good, the other saying its good even though the customer accepts it either way.

I was fortunately laid off which allowed me to seek more suitable longer term employement.

• Organized internal corrective action meetings on manufacturing as well as systemic issues such as training and standardization with subject matter experts
• Assigned responsibilities and end dates for task completion and plant wide corrective actions
• Reviewed and formally documented all corrective action progress throughout the manufacturing facility
• Designed and programmed a time embedded system in MS Excel to increase bottleneck capacity in inspection areas. The system was programmed using macros and was displayed on LCD screens throughout the facility, resulting in shrinking inspection time by 30%
• Compiled and maintained a weekly scrap log, rework and non-conformance reports for the quality department
• Analyzed quarterly reviews as well as created visual presentations for the corporate and our customers
• Professionally dealt with external source inspectors and analyzed customer quality report cards to investigate ongoing quality issues, resulting in implementation of improvement and quality measures in future production

What is the best part of working at the company?
I've never worked for a company that took as much pride in making the employee's work 2 or 3 times harder than they need to. Some are very over worked and under paid. I've seen people sleep on the job and get an in creditable  raise. They offer profit sharing but, it works out to be 5 cents an hour.(Not joking)

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everyone in my department put in a complaint about the supervisor and nothing happened. HR did nothing to resolve this matter, but it did increase the tension on the shop floor. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
If you do something wrong when you start some will let you know, others will go behind your back and try to get you in as much trouble as possible.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The tools you use are inadequate and useless considering some of the parts way 800 - 1200 pounds. If you get hurt they don's care, just get the job done.

asked to work  overtime, but no supervisor to tell what to do,(I was new to the job, came on a couple of Saturdays, there was no one working in my department, so I was left wondering what to do.)
I was there for less than three months did not enjoy my experience
working there.
Co-workers made it abundantly clear that they felt there was not enough work for new employees
Work instructions provided at work stations were well out of date. 
Management offered no feedback to new trainees.
 The one good manager I had was put on another shift, BIG MISTAKE, 
New manager was really not helpful at all, always leaving to go to meetings, or he was late in mornings
THIS WAS THE WORST WORKING ENVIRONMENT I EVER EXPERIENCED.
I followed work instructions provided by the co-workers, but parts came back to me for re-work. The W/I were out-dated.
POOR MANAGEMENT

If you enjoy working for lead hands and supervisors that have no idea how to run a company and keep their employees motivated then this is the place for you. Team leads are not concerned with quality of work just quantity, just get things out the door, good or bad doesn’t matter. They will hire anyone off the street then get rid of you just as fast. There’s no room to grow in this company. Their  motto is safety first but safety is the last thing that they really think about unless something happens and when it does they’ll just blame you for not being aware of your surroundings and walk you out the door. The employees there for the most part are great. Centra is a sinking ship and hopefully the good employees there smarten up and don’t go down with it.

Centra still has remnants of when it was a ma and pa shop. Many things that are being conducted are plain outdated and require excessive work and resources to accomplish. There is an unrealistic expedite culture. It seem expediting is prefered to planning.

Compensation packages is the best I have ever seen. High salaries, 3 week min vacation, RRSP match, Profit sharing and Quarterly Bonuses.

There is question if this will last as many contracts are ending and the contracts that are left, margins have been slashed. It will be very tedious in the next few years.

Centra was a great place to work friendly helpful never left you hanging lots of overtime awesome benefits I didn’t even pay for a prescription dispensing fee profit-sharing and retirement plan you can’t beat putting in 4% and it turning into 12% if you wanted a better wage all you had to do is prove your worth it lots of room to grow in a lot of different areas  plus a 2%-3% minimum increase every year only Covid interfered with my career at Centra I hope they come back strong I would definitely like to go back and retire a Centra employee we had it made good clean work extra $$$ if you needed it confidence in retirement with the friends to go with it. 

Working here takes its human toll on you. You get a paycheck and benefits and RRSP but the only way to last is not to have any responsibility. If you are responsible it will wear you out from the demands and beatings. Best to keep your head down and work till end of the day. 

If you like OT and don’t want to enjoy life outside of work, this is the place for you. 

The company is on Expedite Watch by its main customer. New parts are late, and production parts are late. More money gettting burned by OT and rework and expedite charges. When this is all done, who knows who is left. 

They layoff people many times in the year to Balance The Books.

It is part of a big corporate now, but didn't change much at all. Pay is very low, or at least for me it was (ranges were all over the place). Job security? If you work hard for less pay, you will be fine, but will never have a chance to advance your career, despite your skills or qualifications.
Worked for 10 years, waiting to move on with my career, but just played "catching" or better say "throwing" game. I moved on with my career when I finally had enough and moved out there.
Management and CEO's turnovers made it more difficult to advance employees too, and definitely will make harder to evaluate the CEO below, (which one to pick?)

This company has good potential but management needs to fix some supervisors and team leads buddy buddy system. Once your good at a job that's where you stay no moving up. They don't pay for any kind of school they just reimburse you for course only. Supervisors will look out for their team leads and throw anyone else under the bus. Operation is 24/7,  12 hr continental shift. Reviews get done once a year but you get your money after 3-4 months later never on time. Profit sharing is held back 45 days. Nothing is ever on time in this place a lot of people just stress. Supervisors nor team lead have any ideas about machines or how they operate.
