Concordia University of Edmonton is a very interesting organization. Lots I will mention.

For starters, every department is different. I was lucky and fortunate to work with a solid and caring team, and have a wonderful Supervisor during my time there. I promise you, money is important, but it's not everything. You can make a lot of money, but not work with a solid team. Otherwise, I would have left a long time ago. Lots of places have turnover but throughout my time here, throughout our office, a couple of my colleagues resigned. Unfortunately, Concordia can't keep many people on past 2 years. Some have been there longer term, but many people leave. The turnover in the department I worked in was very high. I was informed even as I started that the Turnover in the department I was in was high. There seems to be a lot of nepotism within the Organization as well. At one point they did layoffs, which affected departments. I've seen and heard a lot internally, and definitely don't plan on working here again of an opportunity came in the future.

There aren't too many pros to my time there. Only a couple stand out. Great colleagues, a great supervisor. I've met great staff working here. That's a positive with Higher Education. Unfortunately , not much else stands out for positives. Money is important, we all need it, but so is your peace of mind. It was nice coming to work knowing that people didn't yell at me and treated me with respect and like a human being. No job is perfect, but I think Concordia is one of the least desirable places to work for. Unfortunately, if you land work here, even internally, it can be hard to advance and due to staff turnover, the workload is a lot. And there aren't a lot of options for growth vertically or horizontally. If this is a big desire for you, to be frank, you won't experience that here. 

It is the highest I've made personally so far in any job, but knowing how there are other Higher Education University positions out there, I know there will be some out there that are a better fit. 
Higher Education is amazing if you land a position at an Institution where there's room to grow , but personally, I can't say that I'd recommend Concordia University of Edmonton long term. The pros unfortunately don't outweigh the cons. 

Location is kind of inconvenient and inaccessible. University of Alberta, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and MacEwan University all have great bus and LRT access to those University institutions. Concordia on the other hand is a commute for students and staff. And if you don't have a vehicle, it's even more difficult. Something that should be in the works within the institution. They have a bus service, but I don't think it's through frequent times.

I've seen some things internally that wouldn't make me want to work here long term.

As a new employee of Concordia University of Edmonton; thus far I have had a very positive experience. Employees are encouraged to embrace work-life balance. There are dedicated professionals that are supportive of new ideas and questions to help you learn systems and processes and team members are committed to supporting and helping others succeed.  

As an employee, to name a few of the amenities at your disposal you also have access to: a library, the fitness facility, coffee and snack kiosks, a cafeteria, a book-store, performances from summer camps,  a beautiful view to go for walks over your breaks, are just a few. 

Overall, the organization provides a sense of community and supports serving others in each of their roles! I would highly recommend this organization as an 'employer of choice'!

In my experience, this is not a healthy workplace. There is noticeable favoritism, and hard work often goes unrecognized while those who focus on maintaining the right relationships with leadership tend to advance. Many employees are treated poorly, and work–life balance is almost nonexistent. Internal politics are overwhelming, and job security feels extremely low. It often seems that gaining approval from management matters more than actual performance. The environment is inefficient, with outdated practices and little interest in improvement. Overall, based on what I observed, this is not a place I would recommend for anyone seeking a supportive or growth-oriented workplace.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Balanced work life. Taken care by your management many a times. Lots of leave days. Some of the staff from other department are so nice to get along.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Money spent on work needed, Decision making and hiring is slow. These make stressful sometimes. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is less stressful and more balanced. Work culture is overall good.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Some days are super busy right from the start. Some days are routine. There is always something to learn here each day.

I was very excited to start at Concordia. They have excellent benefits, pension, lots of time off etc. However, I don' think they described the job I was hired for specifically, good enough while doing the interview. Most of the people were very nice. There was a few that are extremely rude, I'm honestly not even sure how they have a job still. Training was good, but a lot of micro managing. If you make a mistake, they act like it is the end of the world, when in reality its just a small fix. You have tp pay for parking which ends up being around 80 dollars for staff, or 150 a month for heated parking. I feel like some of that should be paid by the University. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The only part working for this company is the students attending to further there education

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
 The position in which i have is extremely stressful as there is absolutely no support from the managers  or Human resources, You have no one to turn to  in a crisis. You are a nobody unless you are in a top position. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment & culture is a complete joke.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Each & every day is a hardship. I am always feeling deeply sad.

I interviewed at CUE and was offered a position. There was a lot of back and forth about my salary, unclear expectations, and just straight lies. About a week later they revoked my job offer, but then three days later they reposted the exact same job on their website again. Dishonest and shady organization. 

They try to lowball their salaries yet require staff to have a degree and two years of experience. You could make better money working retail if you wanted to. 

Working at Concordia's Library has so many benefits I don't know where to begin. As a student Library Assistant, you have the main responsibilities of ensuring students sign in and out, and secondly, you need to get a head count of people present in the library at the beginning of after-hours. 
Benefits of this job is the great pay, the flexible hours, and the amount of time you get to study- all the while gaining administrative experience.

I've enjoyed my time at Concordia, however, it lacks room for growth. I feel I will have to look for advancements elsewhere. There is strong collegial support in my department, but I gather from other staff this does not exist elsewhere. There is a lack of engagement or interest from upper management, not to mention a disconnect between faculty and staff. The benefits are subpar, very limited for mental health.  

Great job. Some of my best memories and best friends worked here. Awesome Management, great training, wages raised each year. Physical work, but enjoyed that aspect, as much as helping other students or profs with diverse tasks. Awesome student job.
