On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to be responsible for the cleanliness and behind-the-scenes function of the entire Avalon Mall. More specifically, as custodial/janitorial staff, you solely will be responsible for the entirety of whatever floor you're assigned to, unless assigned to the Food Court, in which case you work with a small group. In short, much of your job is solitary, with some exceptions, and as such you are expected to manage your time and your duties efficiently as there is minimal to no managerial supervision at any given time. There is often ample heavy lifting and general heavy labor involved.

If you're looking for incredible benefits and a decent wage, and decent job security, albeit at the cost of a severe lack in advancement opportunities, Crombie provides. However, if you're looking for a warm, inviting workplace culture with decent communication between staff and management, your mileage may vary significantly.

The hours are great if you can hook a full-time position, and even then you may find yourself getting far more hours than you bargained for as a part-time employee simply due to frequent short-staffing. 

The hardest part of the job would be breaking into a difficult environment with an often toxic social dynamic between staff members, despite working primarily alone, in addition to developing chronic back and joint pain from excessive physical labor (but that's where the great benefits come into play.)

The best part of the job is an amalgamation of solid pay and benefits, along with convenient location if you happen to live in St. John's.

Overall, I would recommend this job to anyone who doesn't mind working in stressful, fast-paced, variably toxic environments, with the trade off of decent pay, great benefits, and convenient location.

Crombie’s culture is based on values that were employee-generated, and are truly ones you can feel every day. People care about each other, and coworkers become friends quickly. New employees are introduced to their coworkers and have regular check-ins at 30, 60, and 90 days to ensure they’re getting along okay in their roles. The work is challenging, which is a positive for me, so I recommend Crombie as a place for anyone who wants to be valued for their humanity, skills and abilities. 

The best part about Crombie is the people. They are welcoming, inclusive and eager to share their knowledge. Culture is key for me and the company genuinely cares about their people. I have the flexibility I need, the autonomy to do my work, the support from my leader and colleagues and opportunities for growth at Crombie. I definitely recommend as a great place to work!

It was not a good fit from day one. The environment was toxic for me. Issues in effect prior to my being hired continued and worsened. The enforcement of policies and procedures was inconsistent. Certain behaviours were not addressed and disciplinary measures were not used. Management could not be relied upon. Would never recommend this company to anyone.

My favorite thing about working at Crombie REIT is the culture! Everyone is welcoming, accepting genuinely cares about each other. With the inclusive culture, competitive pay and flexibility, I would rate Crombie 10/10 of an awesome place to work. 

Mainly received invoices, collected rent from tenants and deposited to company accounts.  I learnt mainly how to work in a different environment and interact with a verity of costumers, from contractors, vendors, clients and consumers.  My co-workers were amazing.

Pay and benefits were good. Work environment was unhealthy. Shifts were 12 hours long, for both days and back shifts. The company laid off their entire in house Security team, to save money by hiring a privately contracted company.

No room for advancement in my department, lack of morale in the office. Good money, got a raise every year, flexible work hours if you need them to be, rotational work.

It is a atmosphere of who's who. Some do fantastic depending on who you are friends with, or as in most cases who you are related to, unfortunately this is the culture at Crombie.

Good company to work for. Pay was low but lots of benefits and easy day-to-day work load. Management was always respectful and offered advancements in position and pay.
