DEC Express

When hired was promised 8-9 hour shifts with overtime & benefits after 3 months no questions asked.  Not at employees treated equally as promised by management when hired.

  Terrible communication with company they work for.  Tire delivery.

  All of the drivers with the exception of 3 spoke English was the only time in my life where I felt like a minority in the country I was born.

  When it came time for reviews & benefits that we would get to it you were told.  That time never came.  Had broken mirror on truck that never got fixed even though they promised vehicle safety was top priority.

The gentleman who had to dispatch the runs was left high & dry time & again by management who simply didn't care.  

  The one positive thing was rural runs but they occur twice daily and 9 out of 10 days you are done early by minimum of 1 hour or more, but won't pay you the promised 40 hours that you were told you were getting when hired, which is given in writing.

This company doesn't care about hourly employees at all, be very careful and get everything in writing.  They always had the I'll let you know next week answers or I'll look into answers but never could get straight by the time those answers ever came.

  Pay periods were awful 5 & 20 of each month, and every pay stub had hours missing.

DON'T ACCEPT JOB IF OFFERED.  THEY LIE TO YOUR FACE ABOUT EVERYTHING.

I wouldn't recommend this position to anyone who is looking to grow with the company or have opportunities in the future. First off, the employees are extremely judgemental, do not communicate, they speak behind new peoples backs, and are not helpful when you have questions as a newcomer. The initial training you get is very basic and you are given a book to review to help. However, the processes and rules change on a daily basis making the training almost useless. The management comes across as being quite nice at first but you quickly realize they are only there for themselves and don't really care about the employees. I witnessed on several occasions them ignoring drivers who didn't get paid for some ridiculous reason leaving them penniless for their mortgage and bills not to mention feed the family. 
There's one employee there who sabotages the employees work and will tattle tale on you for any reason just to get te credit. 
The turnover rate is tremendous.... That should raise a red flag right there. 
I have worked for many bad companies but this one stands out by far. 
They ask a lot from you work wise (overtime ect) pay you very low wages and still screw up your pay every two weeks. 
Anyone looking for a career this is not the place for you. Perhaps ok for a high school student summer job.

I worked for Dec as a driver, owner operator. I enjoyed my job, my days were busy, I did deliveries and pick ups all day long. 

The downside was that you never know what you are making because they don't tell you how much your earn per trip, and that is how you earn money here. So you have to wait until you pay day to find out what you made. Then there are deductions for the gas that you purchased with their gas card, deductions for your t-shirt with their logo on it, deductions for the sticker they put on your vehicle and a bunch of other deductions. Then, the next pay period they deduct more than you made so that now you owe them money, at this point you realize that you will never be able to be rewarded for any of the work that you did, the system is designed so that the drivers starve and go broke, while the company makes millions.

This company is run by incompetent money hungry non-corporate types. The types that curse a lot and are prone to agitation by just breathing.

Initially they changed the payday 7 times before they finally made a deposit and after waiting two months, the deposit was for one day.

Expect long days well past the initial 8 hr promise and if your refuse or demand compensation for OT, your pay will be docked 50% - these guys don't think this is Canada a place with laws but their homeland somewhere with ISIS.

There are constant threats and contracts are not respected as the company prefers conflicts of interests from agents that employ cheap labor and want to maximize profits as well as they are cut from the same cloth.

Try Western dispatch, Greggs or even DHL is more profitable. This company won't last - don't waste your time with this fly by night.

A typical day at work for me would consist of....organize the drivers, make sure they are on scheduled routes.  handled customer issues, wrong product or issues with drivers.  The biggest thing I learned as a manager is how to deal with the different personalities of my employees.  I have the aptitude to keep others motivated.  I enjoy working with others & get along with my co-workers.

The hardest part of the job was adapting to the different personalities of my employees & learning to treat all the same even though they are on different motivation & thinking level.

Since I enjoy working with others...my most enjoyable part of the job was working with over 30 employees & all being directed by me.
I enjoyed making the workplace a fun place to come work.

The people that I supervised were great, and they were the most enjoyable part of the jobs as well the customers. normal day was 11 hours long and lots of walking which was good for the exercise was warehouse work.
 I learned that people if treated well will work for a person with out a lot of bickering, if one is given the chance he or she could shine. Hardest part of the job was firing staff, and finding out after one helps put the company right with the customer and due to a freak accident finds him or her out the door.
  For the most part when upper management was not around it was an ok place to work if you do not mind 6 days a week.

At DEC Express I worked as an independent contractor and was paid based on flat rates for work performed.

A typical day would start around 8:30 AM and the drivers would gather at a large table and start planning delivery routes as they're coming off the printer. At a specified departure time the product would be loaded and then we all take off. 

Management was very go go go, punctuality was paramount.

The hardest part, at times, was finishing the routes within the allowed window when dealing with traffic and other delays beyond our control.

The best part, if you enjoy being on the road, this is a fun job.

I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with customers, delivering tires, offering personal attention and service to each customer. 
I have learned to be well organized, meeting dead lines and cooperating well with management direction.
I appreciated working with sincere, respectful individuals who were always willing to help.
I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed doing this job and i am surely going to miss it.

I have learned to run a machine that cleaned tires and rims and also how to changed the water, cleaned and beads of the machine. Management and my co workers were very easy going, supervisor was easy to talk to and was not very observant once he knew that I knew what I was doing and at the right pace. There was not much hard about the job, sometimes the rims can get pretty heavy. Ienjoyed the company of my co workers.
