I had the opportunity to work at Deciem for a period, and while my time there had its ups and downs, it gave me valuable insights into both the company's culture and the work environment.

Positive Aspects: The management at Deciem was truly one of the highlights. They were approachable, communicative, and always ready to lend a helping hand. I appreciated how well-organized everything was, and it was clear that the company values its employees. The team leaders and supervisors were especially supportive, often checking in on staff to ensure that we were managing our workloads well and had what we needed to succeed.

The company's focus on innovation and the beauty industry made it an exciting place to be. Being surrounded by people who were passionate about their work was motivating, and there was a sense of pride in being part of a brand that is well-known and respected in the industry.

Challenges: However, despite the good management, one of the downsides was the compensation. For the amount of labor involved, the pay didn't quite meet expectations. The job was physically demanding, and at times, it felt like there was more work than we could reasonably handle in a shift. The tasks were often repetitive and labor-intensive, which can be tough over time without adequate compensation or incentives.

While I understand that some roles come with higher demands than others, the balance between workload and pay could definitely be improved. If Deciem were to address this issue, it would make the overall experience much more rewarding for employees.

Conclusion: Overall, Deciem is a company that offers a good working environment with excellent management and a supportive team culture. However, the pay structure, particularly in relation to the physical demands of the job, could use some improvement. For anyone considering a position at Deciem, it's a great place to work if you're looking for strong leadership and a collaborative environment, but be prepared for the hard work that comes with it.



What is the best part of working at the company?
Great discount 70%, has benefits for full time (not great- but has them and they are employer paid) , lots of education about the brand 



What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
HR and Recruiters
-the recruiters need to do better, they are slow and don’t have interest in actually doing their job. I had a talent tell me that Yaw?? Answered the door and had a full conversation laughing with someone forgetting he was on a call, and someone else ordered pizza while in an interview- ehem.

Communication

People don’t communicate across departments, they act like a startup when they mess up (ooops…forgive us) but when you do, they act like it’s the end of the world and are very un-human with their interactions.

No growth

Seldomly will you see growth- lots of opportunities but then they pause and then they go and forth- DECIEM: you have people the are wanting to be with you forever, they stake extra projects, tasks and education, your promotions are with in your company. Wake up. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great culture if you are in HQ, lots of communities to join and diversity promoted lunches- and casual dress. the retail teams suffered. They had to fight to have a microwave to heat up their food. And still had to wear all black, it’s a bit of following the masses for a brand that wants to stand out- at the least give them a clothing allowance

Take what you can if they hire you for a contract. They’ll only hire you after if the managers like you.

Start up company, cool products, not that great of management, EXTREMELY slow during normal days.

For a company that’s consistently expanding, please do better. 

15th and 30th of the month pay? Uh, every other week please. 

It’s Friday, and you still don’t have your schedule? Ah, no problem, management will release it on Saturday for the upcoming Monday schedule. It’s super late, think they’d do more than 7 days at a time? Nah, they’ll just keep releasing schedule every weekend. Hello? People have lives, who wants their schedules released on the weekend prior? 

Management won’t let you go home or call in sick even though there’s 5 people closing and they don’t need you anyways. Hey, it’s super dead, think you can ask to go home? Nope! They don’t care, you already took your hour break, so you absolutely cannot go home! 

Super dead store, can’t seem to properly do breaks. They can’t seem to just make a proper schedule of when people go on break. You’re working 8 hours? You ONLY get 1 hour break . That’s your 45 plus your 15 together. For the whole 8 hours. Then management will complain there’s too many people in the back , yes, maybe if you actually schedule breaks when people NEED a break from standing around doing nothing and losing their minds.

DECIEM is a very structured company with a strong focus on policies and procedures. The environment is professional and sometimes feels quite serious, with a clear expectation to adhere strictly to corporate standards. If you're looking to grow within the company, staying long-term can offer opportunities for advancement, especially in corporate roles. However, you need to consistently perform at a high level—being a "star player" is essential if you want to succeed here. There's also a strong emphasis on maintaining professionalism, so keeping your personal life separate from work is important. The culture may not be for everyone, especially if you prefer a more relaxed, flexible work environment, but for those who thrive in organized, high-performance settings, DECIEM can offer a solid career path. It’s a place where dedication and hard work are recognized, but you have to be all in

Congratulations on getting a full time job at one of the fastest growing “ethical, sustainable” beauty companies! But guess what? You’re going to get extremely lowballed, sick days per year are in the single digits, and don’t expect any empathy for not operating like a robot who doesn’t need accommodations unless they like you on a personal level. What you will get, however, is everyone calling each other a “family” and free monthly lunches. Extremely overloaded with work with no extra compensation, no flexibility unless you’re a higher up then you can take time off whenever you want. I could go on and on but hopefully this is enough to deter you from here.    

Constructive feedback and criticism is met with scoffs and tossed aside.

Pros:
-Colleagues are friendly and helpful. You get some great teamwork with the right people.
-Likely one day at office per week in the future.

Cons:
-Micromanager drives you crazy. They takes all the fun work from you and leaves you dying internally. They makes the job extremely boring and drives you crazy. 
- They don’t care much about your personal growth. Next to zero employment retention program.
- Poor compensation. Don’t expect to get a fair salary raise with the annual review. 
- Nepotism. 

I regret wasting years of my life at this place. Micro managed, overworked, low pay with only so-so benefits.  Any collaboration between different departments is a logistical nightmare, actually within your department too. 

At least they're generous with the employee discount? Co-workers in general are great people though, Senior Managers, Heads and Director level is where things get dicey. I actually got along well with my department heads but I just could not take the company as a whole anymore. 

I worked for Deciem for 2 years - the first was incredible and before the merger. After it was bought out corporate was turned over to reflect Estee's takeover along with an overturning of company policies and values to reflect this. I was fired with no just cause to try and tighten the budgets - with little to no sympathy for the time and energy I had poured into what I thought was a career with DECIEM.

You Need to Fix the line as soon as possible

Friendly Environment and mostly professional. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working in The Kettles to replace the Homogenizer.

You basically have no work life balance. Upper management does not care about you. Overworked for no pay, basically working from 7am-9pm with the amount of things they make you do, everything is always “urgent!”. Super fake with a few rare gems. Mentally drains you, always feeling stressed. They try to pay for your time with “free food”, “discounts”, “employee team-building”, Management overloads you on everything, blames you for everything. You’re just a number to them.
