DONWOOD MANOR

I worked for Donwood 23 years and we have gone through a few management's.However almost 3 years ago,new Management came in and informed all staff that they were looking to get rid of all the Longterm employees because they knew their rights and were at the top of the pay scale with the benefits.They would prefer to have new employees that only said yes to them at the lowest pay scale working less hours.
Donwood used to be an amazing place to work with all departments working together as a team/Family.We as that Team would have great communication,respect for each other and worked hard for the residents going above and beyond to make it a great home for them and their families.
Now,management have cut almost all their best employees and cut hours all for money.It is showing as staff are so busy and stressed that their is not enough time for the proper care to the Beautiful Residents we try so hard to care for.
I wouldn't recommend putting your loved one here at this facility until there is New Management who cares about their staff and the Residents.Management shows no respect to their staff whatsoever.And in return the Residents are suffering.

Heavy workload everyday. Sick calls not replaced. Management are stuck 20 years behind the times and won’t listen to new ideas. Too much redundant paperwork to the point of not being able to find the information to do your job properly. Toxic work culture with people nice to your face and talking behind your back. Care of residents is not resident cantered. Residents are seen as liabilities and potential lawsuits. Management is focused on micromanaging the staff with nonsensical rules yet miss glaring omissions in care. They have had a number of PPCO and critical incident investigations which is no surprise. Heavy use of chemical restraints to keep residents from falling. If you care about the elderly your heart will break seeing how they are treated.

Staffing challenges, including not always replacing sick calls, are a common reality across many healthcare facilities and are often influenced by budget and resident acuity levels. While feedback and new ideas are encouraged, it is important that they align with organizational priorities and are implemented collaboratively, as established documentation practices remain a foundational part of care delivery. The facility continues to promote teamwork, transparency, and resident-centered care, though adapting to change can be difficult for some staff, particularly those accustomed to longstanding practices. Overall, ongoing changes in staffing, management, and policies require adaptability and a shared commitment from all staff to support both the work environment and quality of care.

The hardest part of my job was dealing with the management. Our views no longer coincided, at this point I severed my ties with the company. Negatives aside, I learnt many valuable lessons from my coworkers and patients in the establishment. I was taught the principles of being a Health Care Aide and how this job truly benefits people. 
However, I learnt all this under the previous management, the new team runs it like a corporation and not a home for the people. There was no familial value, if my child was violently ill, I would be forced to continue working. They would approve vacation days and without a weeks notice, they would take back their approval! I used to love my job here, but then they changed the management team and we stopped being treated like human beings.

New CEO and management came in and started cleaning house. They got rid of  HCA’s and nurses that knew what they were doing just so they could hire their friends and just recently family members.  And others just got fed up and left. It also doesn’t help when you have co-workers that are malicious and backstabbing. There mission statement is a joke. They DO NOT follow it. It use to be a place you could TRUST the people you worked with. There was RESPECT, good communication, loyalty and team work. Management took this all away. If you like being stressed all the time and disrespect by management and working with some staff that like to stab you in the back just so they can take your job. This is the place for you. If you want a place that respects you and your values. Keep looking

Working at Donwood Manor has been a privilege and a blessing for myself. Never in my 18 years of working, have I worked with strong empowered women leaders until I worked at Donwood. The Leadership team gives the moral support for their staff, while maintaining the highest level of patient care to the residents. The staff are so lovely, caring and very professional with their work commitment. The organization provides the most essential Education training to staff and continuously think of innovative ways on how to develop new strategic plans  for the PCH.

Most of the staff seemed friendly, but I think they’re backstabbing.

Staff and management have lost their real purpose. I feel like a two minute conversation with a resident is more important than ignoring them.
I  would never place my parent or relative at this personal care home.

working in this field has helped me to know how to handle life situation,in which I have deals with different health condition with their special needs,working with co worker has help a lot to diffuse stressful situation.
the hardest part is when your client refuse to coperate with daily activities which slow you down to attend to other clients.
the most enjoyable part of the job is when a resident or clients tell you,what will I do without you,that means a lot me,they make me feel appreciated in looking after them.

The management here does not care for their employees! I have been here for many years and it definitely has been going downhill. Management does not care about any issues and never addresses them. They are putting too much work on the employees and do not show any appreciation for the overly hard work that their employees do.

Loved working there. Great people, loved the residents and their families, and the responsibilities I was given.  If the opportunity was there, I would work there again.
