The workplace at Donwood is dedicated to promoting resident safety, respect, health, and spiritual well-being. Having worked in this facility for several years, I have not encountered another environment with the same level of commitment to ensuring that residents are well cared for and maintained in good condition.
While some staff members express concerns about workload, it is important to recognize that providing high-quality care to residents is both meaningful and fulfilling. The role goes beyond simply performing job duties; it involves genuine compassion and dedication to those in our care.
In many similar facilities, it is not uncommon to hear complaints regarding management or job responsibilities. However, it is important to approach situations with a balanced perspective—considering both the positive and challenging aspects. By doing so, we can better appreciate the good rather than focusing solely on the negative.
Ultimately, each individual has the freedom to choose their workplace. The key message I would like to share is the importance of maintaining an open mind. There are reasons behind how things are structured, and understanding these reasons can help foster a more positive and constructive work environment.


What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with the residents was a rewarding experience.Got told from a resident that I was special.Helping the residents feels good and there very thankful.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor management don't listen and don't care about your concerns.Working short handed all the time is not right and fair to the residents.The food is horrible and the food handling is even worse.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very poor work environment lots of drama and favoritism lots of employees are not happy working there but don't address it to management because they are scard.And even if you do nothing gets done about your concerns. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Walking on eggshells not wanting to be there stressed out wondering if there will be enough employees for the day.Think about the residents hoping you can be there for them helping them.Not seeing enough care for the residents is sad and seeing them getting neglected because theres not enough staff.

This use to be a great workplace until new management came in and fired half the staff only to bring in their friends or new people with zero experience. You have no support from management team when it comes to helping residents or dealing with family members.. the staff all gossip about each other, and absolutely do not respect one another. You have no sense of job security as the director of care will find any reason to let you go. You are not appreciated. You are constantly overworked, often getting only one break during and 8hr shift because things are too busy. You can ask for more staff/help but it will be talking to a wall. Honestly this place isn't worth the stress!! The list could go on but I think you get the point

I really thought that I would enjoy working at Donwood Manor. I did enjoy it for a while until I realized how unappreciated the Health Care Aides are. The staff work very hard every day to care for the residents, a lot of the time short staffed. The Managers treat their staff with very little respect and speak negatively about them behind their backs. The pay is not the greatest for the amount of work that needs to be done throughout the day, however, It is better than minimum wage. The residents, some of the staff members and of course the paycheck with the weekend premium make it worthwhile. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Management collaborates well with Nurses and other employees for betterment of the residents. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When there is a shortage of staff during MD’s rounds although seldomly happens.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Family are very much involved with their loved ones, the residents.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Sometimes steady and sometimes it’s quite busy

not an ideal workplace. management does not listen to concerns of the employees. Kitchen appliances are breaking down left and right. Too many tasks to complete in given time and shift loads are uneven. people don't help each other. lots of waste. you have to check the schedule daily because it changes drastically daily. my shift has changed in the MIDDLE of the day. 

Most enjoyable part of my job was taking care of the residents and interacting with them daily. I learned a fast pace environment and quick response. A typical day at work was taking care of the residents daily care needs daily. The management were good listeners and caring. the Hardest part of my job would be loosing a resident. My co-workers were very helpful and caring.

In my time at Donwood Manor was negative. My experience with colleen and her staff was negative. Volunteers seem nice on the outside but gossip alot and cause problems  for the people who actually want to make a diffrence. You have to read between the  lines.  Some  things I saw  were very disturbing.   :(

Donwood manor isn’t a good place to work. The workload is heavy. Staff are working short all the time. They have  trouble keeping new staff because it’s more trouble than it’s worth so they quit. The residents don’t get treated the way they should. Staff have no time to spend with them they’re too busy doing the required paperwork. This is how management thinks they’re covering their behinds from lawsuits!!
